I don't like the Lord of the Rings trilogy as much as most people. I mean, they're good, very well done and everything, but I can't go through hours and hours of that again.

Another thing, I agree on. I enjoy LOTR, but I don't love it.

Personally, Fellowship is one of my favorite movies ever.

The other two are very good...but yeah, I kinda see where you're coming from with that.

They wrote Storm pretty terribly in the movies too. Even if she had turned in a good performance, the character would've still been wasted.

I'm sure there was a time when this was a most popular film related opinion.

I wish they had gotten Angela Bassett.

She was preparing for the 4 minutes of screentime she had in Green Lantern.

You know who wrote that line? Joss Whedon. It was the only line of his that made it into the movie.

Go to the X-men boards, most of the fans over there seem to have a hardon for Berry as Storm. They really want her to return in the new X-men since it is going to deal with time travel.

I think the majority agrees with you. Berry is a capable actress but they didnt do anything with the character or her performance. Storm should have been a strong presence. Not all her fault though.

If they do bring everyone back, Rogue is the one I want recast. Cant stand that take on her.

Honestly, I truly think the only characters properly characterized in Singer's movies were Wolverine, Xavier and Magneto. Everyone else was just a cardboard cutout of themselves.

True, but you gotta recognize Singer's work. In a time where superhero movies were not that usual (with the exception of Blade), he made a movie filled with superheroes and supervillains. I'd say he did a pretty good job at planting the seed that would turn into the golden age of superhero movies in the big screen.

I don't see how that matters, honestly. I'm not suggesting he put them all in bright colored spandex, I'm just saying it should've been an ensemble movies (which is nothing new in film, especially for Singer who made The Usual Suspects), and that all of the main cast should've been properly fleshed out.

Because its not like Singer characterized anyone THAT differently...he just choose to not characterize them at all. Which is poor filmmaking regardless of genre or story.

What I'm trying to say is, there hasn't been before X-Men, an ensemble movie featuring all this comic book characters with superpowers. You can model and flesh out and try things with newly created characters, like in the Usual Suspects, but when you're adapting someone else's characters, and you have a lot of stories behind your back, it is quite difficult. He didn't go the full-cheese route, and we should be thankful for that. I still think X2 is the best of that trilogy, but given that it was the first try in that kind of movie, I don't think that was poor filmmaking at all.
This is one of those few times where, I think, context is important.

Yeah, sorry, I just don't agree. I think creating fully fleshed out characters is a basic ingredient of filmmaking and it being a superhero piece really doesn't matter. Honestly, I would've rather he change the characters and have them be living, breathing entities, than shortchange nearly everyone the way he did.

I honestly prefer the first of the two, though. Mainly because I liked what he did with the character progression between Wolverine and Rogue...

Agreed. Not much is done with them, pretty one note. Mags and Prof X are solid throughout. I also liked Nightcrawler.

She was still better handled than Cyclops
The only good thing he was inserted in the movies for was to save Wolverine & Rouge, then to get called a d*** to make sure Wolverine is not Mystique posing
I feel sorry for how wasted his character was

No need to be sorry

Can't wait to see what's in store for X Men: Days of Future Past.

And that's why I like you.

Yeah, I loved First Class. In terms of comic accuracy, the X-Men movies are totally ****ed, but they're in a great place quality-wise now.

I didn't like Gangs of New York.

I love the crime genre. Heck, I like the director, the cast, the setting. But so much about it just seemed cheesy and cliche I've always struggled to understand why it's so popular (beyond the director, setting, cast). To be fair, it's been a long time since I watched it and maybe a repeat viewing now would change my tune -it wouldn't be the first time (I'm looking at you, Zodiac). Perhaps some day soon I'll give it another whirl, but for the time being it's in the sin bin.

I think it's mostly agreed upon by fans and critics, alike, that it's Daniel Day Lewis' spectacular performance that serves an Atlas to that movie. This is how I feel about it, anyway.

This. DDL elevates that movie to the next level for me. I love his character!

I've never really seen the appeal in Daniel Day Lewis either, so maybe that's it!

I don't think it's possible to not like him in that.

I think Punch Drunk Love is PT Anderson's best film.
