Yeah, it was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Up there with The Blair Witch Project. I recognize that Daniel Day Lewis is a good actor, but he's never blown me away in the way he seems to do a lot of people.

Oh no, the movie is tremendously boring. It's wholly intentional though, the film's pacing makes for a rhythmic and resonant experience, like the steady pounding of a heartbeat as Plainview slowly descends into sheer madness.

But that has nothing to do with DDL's performance, so I don't really get your point.

I think what James is saying - is because an appetizer is ok,, it does really make up for a bad main course.

Sorry, yeah. I should have made those two separate paragraphs. There Will Be Blood being a snooze-fest and DDL's performance are totally different points. DDL gave a good performance, he's a good actor, but I'm not as big as fan of him as I gather a lot of people are. Like I said before, my problem with Gangs of New York wasn't the cast, it was the script

Also, seeings as the conversation leaned toward boring movies, I didn't like Blade Runner. I've only seen it once years ago and I'm determined to give it a second chance some day. As I mentioned earlier, I liked Zodiac upon a repeat viewing even though my first impression was negative. And The Godfather was a lot better when I rewatched it several years later, although it still wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped.

I don't know how to feel about Braveheart anymore. There are still elements of it that I love, but over the years (especially in light of Mel Gibson's more recent troubles), I can't help but re-examine it, and there's so much about the movie that I just don't trust. The film is written and structured much like a propaganda film; William Wallace is basically a Mary Sue, the English are so over-the-top evil it verges on parody, and since Edward III was known to be gay, Gibson didn't think twice about making him a total wimp.

I'm not a stickler for complete historical accuracy, I just prefer when larger-than-life characters have a bit of humanity to them. I suppose that complaint could be applied to a lot of movies based on historical events.

If it helps, Mel Gibson wanted a younger actor (I believe he even had someone specific in mind) to play William Wallace, but the studio wouldn't back the film unless Gibson was in the lead role.

I have to admit, I love Braveheart and while I could care less what actors do outside of the movies, it hasn't really held up well over time. Watching the infamous "Freedoooooom!" part is so cheesy when it was once very dramatic, almost as bad as Darth Vader's stupid "Nooooo!" (although Vader's "Nooooo!" was always cheesy)

Yeah, I don't think anyone likes Blade Runner upon first viewing. You need to see it at least 2-3 times. Preferably in blu-ray.

I liked it the first time I saw it. But I saw the director's cut first.

I'm getting my copy in the mail on Thursday hopefully. I'm hoping this new blu ray edition blows my mind.

I didn't finish Blade Runner the first time I was watching it. Gave it another chance a year or so later and it's one of my favourite films now.

I don't think Paul W. S. Anderson is such a bad screen writer
Not a good writer, but not too shabby

I agree, I actually like some of Paul W. S. Anderson movies are ok.
Mortal Kombat
Death Race
Event Horizon
Soldier
Not great, but not horrible either...

AVP, Resident Evils - are a different story IMO

I dug Death Race.

Aside from AVP and the Resident Evil films I dont have that much of a problem with him. Never saw his Musketeer flick.

Same here,, I never saw the Musketeer movie either. Although I have not read anything good,,,, I could have sworn I saw Tarantino saying it was one of his fav films that year.

I started watching A Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time last night. It lost my interest fairly early. I am about half way through it and plan to finish it tonight, but after hearing people say how good it is for two decades, I was expecting to like it more.

Paul WS Anderson isnt bad. He's a good workmanlike director and you know going in it's gonna look good and have a couple good thrills at least, and in my opinion it puts him ahead of the McG's and Brett Ratner's of the world. I have never played Resident Evil (I'm not a gamer) but I watched the movies, that's gotta count for something.

I don't mind musicals, but you are absolutely right. I had no idea that there was next to no spoken dialogue in the whole movie. It would be different if it was like your standard Disney movie, where a song pops up from time to time, but this was too much for not having expected it. But yeah, cool visuals, but oh well, I will probably finish it later to say I did. I came so close to just buying it a few times without having seen it first. I'm glad I didn't.

Y'know, The Skin I Live In may have been the best movie of 2011 now that I think about it.
