The superheroes Gunn has experience directing could (should) be described as screw ups. Think the goal is to carry that over to our Guardians? Not that the GotG are perfect, but they do tend to get the job done. I'm just mulling out loud.
Quite frankly, sounds perfect to me.

I could have sworn that I heard something about the Guardians being ex-convicts.
Edit: Ah, here it is. From the rumored synopsis: Quote:

I don't see how they'll make Groot a convict. Maybe they'll just be people who did bad things for the right reasons.

They were all in a Kree prison when they first got together in the Star-Lord mini. They don't even have to have done bad things, alien governments and laws won't operate in the same way the American government does.

The Guardians are all kind of shady characters; That's a big part of their appeal. It's the dirty dozen in space. Star Lord's genocidal history will probably be tossed out, but they're all assassins, mercenaries, and unscrupulous people.

Well maybe I was just thinking of "convict" in a different way.

I just realized Joss Whedon confirmed that James Gunn is going to do a third re-write of the script. I was wondering if he would.

good or bad? on one hand we'll get the best of three attempts. on another, might it become convoluted?

He's probably writing the script with the writer they hired, like Shane Black did with Drew Pearce

I'm weeping/salivating at the thought of a James Gunn-directed Marvel movie.
This may now be my most anticipated Phase II movie next to TA2.

I hope they let him off the chain and really go "out there" with this concept, especially with characters like Rocket Raccoon. I like his sensibilities and hope to see a big comic book movie like this just get completely funky with the material.

Is his Facebook legit?
“For a month or so there’s been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Until now I haven’t said anything, because I’m trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy. As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Thanks – you have, honestly, touched and overwhelmed me. And that’s it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I’ll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians is released!” Last edited by SuperSAINT; 09-18-2012 at 12:47 PM. All I can think is, "James Gunn's version of Rocket Raccoon."
"James Gunn's version of Rocket Raccoon." I may just die from the awesomeness. In case you haven't seen it yet, according to InstantWatcher.com, SLITHER should be coming to Netflix Instant in October.

It was pretty much confirmed when Whedon mentioned it.
