Default 2016 Box Office King?

Who do you think is going to come out on top as the top comic book earner, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Captain America 3?

A couple years ago it would probably be a no brainer based on the superheros involved but with the Avengers cache and with Iron Man playing a role it's shaken up things a lot.

Before the Iron Man entrancement I would say BVS but now.....I have to go with Cap. It's going to be a interesting year for sure.

Because they'd be extreme long shots and everyone knows it. Hey, it's possible for an upset. Just look at GotG winning the 2014 CBM race both DOM and WW. No one expected that.

I think this thread is about BVS vs Cap 3, not other movies despite the thread title.

Well, its over a year and a half away, and a lot of things will affect the outcome. If AOU is very well received, then the lead in for Cap 3 will be very huge. If AOU is not well received the audience could very well be tired of Iron Man/Cap by the time Cap 3 rolls out.

On the other hand, if BvS is a homerun, it could very well be huge on its own. But if it gets more of a response similar to MoS, it could open huge and then fall off early based on WoM.

I think BvS will do gangbusters, regardless of its reception with critics. Batman and Superman are both huge characters, but then you've also got a bunch of other big characters who figure to appear in film for the first time (Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman; even if they are just glorified cameos to set up JL).

Marvel has done an incredible job with their movies but I think there'll come a point when people will not be quite so excited to see Cap and Iron Man again.

marvel has ways around fatigue, if we were simply in IM5 at this point with absolutely no crossovers universe and avengers, it would be what it be but they have ways of sparking their novelty power just when they need to. As seen with this cap3 move for instance. Even their shield show get's boosts from the cross over something or another when they need it.

Just what would that GL film have done had bale showed up at the end, or what would mos have done had heath etc..
DC is just now really getting into this game so it should be interesting.

Surprised people are underestimating the james cameron event that looms that year.

Think BVS will get bigger box office. But think Cap 3 will be the better film. That said if Spidey does appear it might turn things on their head.

Depends on the reception of Avengers 2. If it's anywhere near as positive as Avengers was then Cap 3 is gonna make IM3 numbers at the least.

I'm gonna go with Cap 3 for now.

I think BvS can bring in the big money, particularly if the trailers wow the masses, and the marketing kicks into overdrive.

BvS will crap out money regardless if the movie is actually good or not. And we know many have this irrational hate for Zack Snyder led movies.

This is a once in a generation movie. The first time the big kahuna's are in the same movie.

I think I'm going with Batman V. Superman. The novelty alone is something unprecedented and something comic book fans and even general movie goers have been waiting decades for. "What if the two biggest, recognizable titans in comics were on screen together for the first time ever in live action? And Wonder Woman was making her big screen debut on the 75 year anniversary since her creation?"

Highest grossing CBM for most of this year was X-Men Days of Future Past so Apocalypse being absent from the list is disrespectful

Not really. I could say the same about Doctor Strange and a few others. Given that GOTG outgrossed X-Men it would be just as "disrespectful" to only include it and not Marvel or Fox's new IP's.

Both these films were slated to go up against eachother head on, both have the potential to reach 1 billion much easier then X-Men and the others (Bats and Iron Man have both been their twice), and they both feature a hero VS hero theme.

The rivalry between Supes Vs Bats and Cap 3 is just more on peoples mind and has been for quite some time.

This imo shouldnt even be up for debate. I dont see how cap 3 even with the inclusion of iron man has a chance at beating BvS when x men apocalypse comes out two weeks after the former's release and the latter basically has six weeks to itself. Let alone the novelty and the historic and unprecedented feel batman v superman has.

Did you see what happened to IM3 after Avengers? DC got scared for a reason. Cap and Iron Man are making more money then Supes and Bats right now.

Why does everybody keep saying mention DC? It's WB, NOT DC.

It's one in the same. Unless I'm mistaken WB puts out pretty much everything for DC.

Are we going to ignore that x men DOFP outgrossed cap 2? Whether you like it or not cap 3 box office takes a big hit from Apocalypse. X men isnt just some run of the mill type of franchise. Thats some serious competiton.
And as next nolan says its WB not DC. Surely by now you should know that.
