Because Gwen is his first love, she needs to be seen more before introducing another key love interest.

not really.. first loves don't always mean they have to last a long time...
love is crazy. you can be with someone a short time and they can be more impactful in your life than someone who lasts longer.

Yes it does, if you really want to make an impact before she is killed.

Sounds like so far she's made quite an impact. Build more of it up in 2. Escalating the relationship and kill her at the end its quite enough time

True to a point.
Although I don't want to see Gwen die in the sequel, her death should be held at the end of ASMIII. |

But that wouldn't be a fitting ending for a trilogy. I mean, I hated that the Raimi trilogy ended on a sad note, and killing her then would be even sadder

P.S.: Just to be clear, I'm talking about stuff like VH1, MTV and USA Today; who have all spoiled Gwen's death in the comics. Last edited by mr. peasant; 08-29-2012 at 05:25 AM. |

We will probably not for a very, very long time have the chance to see the Death of Gwen Stacy story be adapted to the big screen again. The next reboot won't want to build up the Peter and Gwen relationship all over again, especially not since it's so well handled in Webb's story (so far). The next reboot wouldn't want to be too similar to this one.
So this might be the only chance we get for an extremely long time to finally get this epic moment on the big screen, one of the most legendary comic book moments ever in fact. Add to that: 1) That Webb loves that story arc and has hinted at it in interviews several times. The fact that Webb, a character director who really gets emotions, seems eager to do this story is a huge opportunity. Don't waste that! 2) That Arad, who's the big boss of all this, and has alot to say in regards to the story, hinted at it as well in an interview. He basically said that they used Gwen in ASM because of her famous story and ultimate fate. 3) That Emma herself almost seems to demand this event to happen in this trilogy in several interviews. She's mentioned it so many times how much she wants it to happen and that it should happen exactly like the comic books, that it almost seems as if she's told by Arad/Webb that it's the plan and now she's hinting at it. She should know at least something about the plans of her character in the trilogy. 4) Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
5) Norman Osborn has this huge presence in the movie without being seen. We know for sure that he will be the big main of this trilogy. Sure, Green Goblin could appear without killing off Gwen, but do some simple logic thinking, put two and two togehter and you'll see how much they build up for this to happen. It WILL happen, and I love that!

CBMs I enjoy the most at this moment: 1) The Avengers, 2) The Dark Knight, 3) Iron Man 3, 4) Iron Man, 5) The Amazing Spider-Man. CBMs in the near future I'm most looking forward to at this moment: 2) Thor 2, 3) Man of Steel, 4) The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 5) Guardians of the Galaxy (would be higher in the list if it wasn't for how much I hate the film Super from the same director). |

He'll i had some of the same people who asked who gwen was in Spider-man 3 ask me again with this film. You give people far too much credit. They don't pay attention nor care as much as we do.

A bigger concern I have is one of time; as in there's likely not enough time to juggle her death with the various other subplots already started by the movie; and that adding this risks causing one or more to go underdeveloped or be aborted entirely. |

I think having Gwen die at the end of the trilogy would be way too much of a downer.
However, judging by the overly somber tone TASM had,I'm sure it wouldn't seem out of place. |

Like others said, I feel like if she dies at the end of the trilogy, it'd end on a really sad note. If this is going to be a trilogy, I say kill her off in the second movie. But if there were say, four films, then I'd say develop her better in the second and kill her off in the third. And the comic scene would be SO BEAUTIFUL if they transitioned it onto film. I only want Gwen to die if her character is developed and they don't F it up.

Seriously, what's the matter with ending the franchise on a sad note, I'm sure they'll be enough light-hearted moments within the film itself?

because, and especially in this case. it's important to see where he goes after such a loss... it'd actually probably piss off the general audience to have it end like that as well

But if a downer ending is the main goal, what about doing what Ultimate did and end the story arc/trilogy by killing off Peter Parker instead? |

Incidentally, being a 'love interest' has very little to do with it. They'd both female characters that the respective heroes care a lot about and who wind up dying as a result of the hero failing to save them in time and were killed (both, in-story and from the writer's intentions) to induce angst and trauma for the hero in question rather than for anything relating to their own identities. |

F--- the media! This is the death of Gwen Stacy, and I don't want some 'happy-go-lucky I feel like dancing and air humpin' when she dies' ending.

.... um people don't want that either. which is why many prefer she dies in the middle of the trilogy rather than the end
