I don't see what's miss about it at all. It's just an image released online. It's basically for us Superman fans to see.

So if it is for fans then of course the fans are going to critique it in both a negative and positive manner. If not, what's the point of releasing it? Unless you are saying that fans should just be grateful a picture is released and just automatically like it, which I completely disagree with.

WB just seems to be terrible at releasing set photos, even for TDK trilogy.... i dont understand it.

again, its just frusterating as a fan who wants everything to be on point. but clearly the most important item, the trailer, has the right look and tone.

Not saying we should be automatically happy with it but its just a still. Take it for what it is.

I feel like they released some questionable photos for Superman Returns along the way as well.

I take it as a still, I just don't like it. So therefore, it's a miss in my opinion.

It is part of their online marketing campaign, and I think they could have put out a better still. If I said, "that was a huge hit!" Would you have commented in the same manner?

I didn't love that suit because the red was off, and I don't love this suit because the blue is off. Doesn't effect the movie and I think both suits look good in action.

In regards to the photos, SR had weird marketing, MOS has a really good trailer going for it.

SR was a weird film, in my opinion.

Not gonna lie, I LOVE the blue on this suit, as I've always preferred the darker blue on Superman designs. BUT, I'm not loving the washed-out look in general. The perfect colors of the suit for me would be exactly as it appeared at comic-con, without this grey filter over it.

It reminds me of when I was watching Ebert & Roeper review SR. Ebert was all, "why is it all so dark? This movie looks like a Batman movie should look! Superman should have more color and humor and exuberance!" Something tells me he's not gonna like this movie either, lol.

Which is funny, because so many of the complaints on this board was about how dark SR was, from the suit, to the filters in the movie, to the sullen story. This movie doesn't seem that much different, not that it's a bad thing, just ironic.

Also, I put these two photos side by side...

more slow and boring than dark...anywho, despite what we have seen to this point, we have heard that this isnt a batman copy, and more in line with star trek in terms of tone. i think the marketing to this point has been to attract the non-superman fan, which is smart. the superman fan is obviously going to go!

No I agree. I like everything about this movie better than what I'd seen from SR at this point...except for the color palette. Because you're right, while the designs and overall aesthetic may be very different, the color palette still seems quite similar so far. I feel like even BB had a warmer palette than this. And that was Batman.

But of course that has little to no effect on the overall quality of the movie, so I'm not worried. Just a minor quibble.

BB did have a warm palette. Mostly earthy tones and sepia.

The colors of the SR looked so bad together, that was my main problem, not that it felt too dark. Dark blue with vibrant red looks way better than the other way round.

I mean, some act like Superman has always had super bright blue on his costume and this is the first instance of a deeper, darker blue.

Judging from the trailer (and teaser) MOS looks like it has been "color corrected" so that it has a bluish tint and higher contrast (for example, Transformer movies were also subjected to a different type of color correction with Orange and Teal tints and a high contrast )

For Superman Returns, a completely new type of "color correction" was used, every frame was subjected to Brownish tint and a low contrast, so that scenes in the movie looked brown and muddy. Even Brandon Routh's hair (which is Black) looked brown.

So, MOS is having a different "look" than SR but both movies have stayed away from giving us a movie with real colors.

I don't suppose there's any chance though of the color palette for the film changing into something a bit more warmer for the final product? Watching the trailer right now; I could turn the saturation level to its highest in the player that I'm watching it on, and only then does it look like the film is normal colors, but when I just revert it back to regular levels, the footage itself is so noirish/dark where there's hardly any color there.

Color palettes don't make or break a film, IMO. I couldn't care less about the color palettes in SR... I hate that movie because Superman was a background character and the story was garbage. If they don't make that mistake with MOS, it should be fine, regardless of how "bright" it is.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. Well said ( about the color palette and SR's numerous issues)

Thanks. I've always felt that SR was a decent looking film... some of the cinematography is stunning and the effects are pretty good. But the movie still fails because the "main" character almost feels like a macguffin and the rest of the story is pretty lousy. And I'm willing to give a lot of leeway to these movies when it comes to goofy villain plots and implausible scenarios, but SR was just a friggin' mess.

SR's biggest crime was that it was boring.

I'd accept it being a mess if it was at least fun.

Oh yeah; I can agree with that. Like you said, it won't make or break the film; it's just a personal quirk of mine; I mean, I would have personally preferred if they had gone with a littler warmer color but I can always modify my television once it comes out on Blu-Ray.lol..it's certainly more easier to tamper with than the color temperature for SR.

And yeah, I agree with what you said as well regarding SR's Problems. Superman needs to be treated as the star of his own films once again and placed within a plot that's exciting for everyone to see unfold.

Indeed. Hopefully, they give sufficient time to Clark to tell his story.
I suspect the color palettes have something to do with the special effect and CGI. So that they can look more real.
