When it comes to passing gas, This Is the End star James Franco takes a covert approach: “I don’t do it in public, but when I’m at home in bed, I’ll fart! And on a plane, I’ll let it go,” he enthuses to Rolling Stone in the magazine’s latest cover story featuring the apocalyptic comedy’s cast. After all, adds Franco, “on a plane, nobody can hear you fart.” (Remind us never to travel with James Franco.)

Franco’s costar Seth Rogen is even more open about his habits. “I will say I’m a pretty bad farter from time to time,” he confesses. “I have a Japanese toilet at home that cleans my ass for me — it’s great. I only like to sh– at home, so I get some pretty bad farts during the day.”

But one This Is the End cast member is too reserved — or maybe just too self-important — to discuss his farting habits: Jonah Hill, whose eyes “nearly jumped out of their sockets” when Rolling Stone asked how often he lets ‘em rip. “I’m not answering that dumb question!” Hill complained to the magazine. “I’m not that kind of person! Being in a funny movie doesn’t make me have to answer dumb questions. It has nothing to do with who I am.”

Okay, fair enough. But according to the interview, Hill also shut down conversation of his workout routine (it’s “of little relevance,” he says) refused to play along when asked what survival skills he’d bring to a crisis, and insisted more than once that he’s a bona fide grown-ass man who doesn’t have time for childish things or interviews — a strange move for somebody appearing in a big, raunchy summer comedy.

But evidently, Hill believes his comedy days are in the past — or at least that he’s no longer primarily a funnyman. “I’ve done one of the biggest challenges you can do in Hollywood, which is transition from being a comedic actor to being a serious actor, and I’m really prideful of that,” he told Rolling Stone. “I could have made a billion dollars doing every big comedy of the last 10 years and didn’t, in order to form a whole other life for myself. Now I have fulfillment doing both.”

That may be true. Here’s the counterpoint, though: Like Hill, Franco also has an Oscar nomination. Unlike Hill, he answered the dumb fart question. Wanting to be taken seriously as an actor is one thing; being completely humorless is quite another. No wonder writer Erik Hedegaard ends that portion of the interview by declaring, “It’s time to get the hell out of here.”

One undeserved Oscar nom and the guy suddenly thinks he's too good to talk about his farts? Get the **** outta here, guy.

I think Hill is funny and I don't dislike him at all but I didn't get that Oscar nom. Sometimes even if I disagree with an Oscar nom I can twist my mind to see why an actor got one but Hill's is one of those that makes no sense to me. He played the funny sidekick and he didn't play it in any particularly deep or memorable way. I don't hold any ill will towards him for it, I mean good for him if he is one of the actor's who finds it to be important.

That interview sounded like it was supposed to be a light funny thing, what was his damage? I understand he is proud of his baffling Oscar nom and reporters can be annoying ****s but he's promoting a dumb comedy. I do think he should have ignored that work-out routine question because it comes off as pointless and rude to me. Was he trying to parody pompous actors or what?

I wouldn't blame Jonah for not wanting to answer dumb questions , but this seems like a prank.

They obviously asked the wrong question if they wanted some funny fart stories...They should've asked what places the actors have really had to fart but couldn't!

You know, like church or my personal favorite, in the middle of a high school or college class while an exam is going on and everyone in the room is dead quiet. I swear it happens every time. Then, trying to keep it in for the sake of everyone else just results in that awkward stomach fart that everyone hears anyways.

I've always wondered if actors filming intimate love scenes have ever let one rip, maybe just to ease the tension..hehe.

I find nothing wrong with him believing he is done with comedy but not playing along with the interviewer is just plain egotistical. Answering a funny question doesn't make you any less serious, Daniel Day Lewis arguably the best actor of all time probably would have played along and answered that with a laugh. C'mon man
