Never read a Mad. It's not a thing here. having said that the Neuman character has become pretty ubiquitous.

In summation: Meh.

From Wiki:

"The Marquis
takes place in Venisalle, a fictional land resembling France during the mid-18th century, complete with stratified society and Church dominance of everyday affairs. The story revolves around Vol de Galle, a former Inquisitor of The Faith who has the ability to see demons, many of which have infiltrated society disguised in human form. De Galle combats these entities with his sabre and a pair of specially built, anachronistic machine guns.

While ostensibly a horror-action comic, The Marquis analyses personal and religious issues through the conflicted character of de Galle, and has been received well by critics and comics professionals including Mike Mignola and Stan Sakai for both its content and Davis's detailed and disturbing artwork"

I liked the origin story he had in that one comic book mini series where it turns out that originally he was a humble working class miner who, through a series of tragedies, turned into a labor rights activist and later terrorist, and originally the Autobots were the super wealthy and super corrupt majority and the Decepticons were shat upon minorities. I mean, ultimately it hasn't had a huge impact on Transformers' mythology, but I liked the concept. Made Megatron seem more like a person. I like the idea that he started off as someone trying to make Cybertron a better place, and that ultimately his motivation is that he really believes that a political system that boils down to a form of National Socialism is really the way to go, but when fighting his rebellion he came to discover that he got a thrill out of fighting and war and conquest.

Kind of thinks that makes him more interesting as Optimus' enemy, too. Like, Optimus believes in freedom and democracy and the right to choose, but because of that he ends up being faced with a lot of tough moral decisions and is sometimes burdened by doubt, because the biggest downside to having the freedom to choose is indecision, and while he's a very skilled warrior and general he's also very weary of war. On the flip side, Megatron is fueled by an unwavering conviction in his belief of a strictly ordered society where the righteous are rewarded and the wicked are punished and corruption is countered by everyone's actions being strictly regulated, and his years of fighting has given him an appetite for violence that causes him to stray from the righteousness of his cause. That's interesting to me. It's not all that complex or anything new, but it's more than just to enormous toys punching each other.

I had no idea he was that multi-faceted. I love villains with back stories like that. One of the reasons I love Sinestro so much.

Megatron is the %^& as far as vilians go! That dude is bad ass! Killing optimus in the 80's motion picture was his coup de grace and him being voiced by the great frank welker was the best ever!

Yep. I got that graphic novel, I think it was called " All Hail Megatron". Megatron is such a bad-ass, I have one comic where Starscream successful stages a mutiny against him and finally takes over as leader of the Decepticons, even sending Devastator to destroy him. Megatron not only survives Devastator's attack ( He actually almost lifts Devastator off of his feet !!! ), put towards the end of the story-arch, even Starscream admits that he will never match Megatron in leadership. Megatron is just to badd-ass for words or pictures. I hate how Bay portrayed him and movies. And no one could voice him like Frank Welker could.

I remember seeing one comic where the Predicons were like, going on strike or being all but hurt or something in the Jungle, and Megatron walked on in, and like half an hour later had dragged out each and every one of they assess out all battered and bruised from the ass whippin' he gave em.

Truly Optimus' opposite number.
