"True Blood" fans have to wait until Season 6 begins this summer to return to Bon Temps -- though no official start date has been announced, we're hearing June is a good bet. In the meantime, we've got an intriguing spoiler to tide you over! This week, new showrunner Mark Hudis sent out a casting call for a brand new character -- and she's going to be a major player in the upcoming 10-episode season.

The "True Blood" team is looking for a Caucasian actress in her early 20s to play Nicole Jannsen. A "do-gooder to the core" Nicole is naive, optimistic, and charming -- but her idealism is "ultimately vaguely idiotic and dangerous."

Nicole is a key member of a band of well-meaning liberal advocates. The gang models itself after the civil rights activist Freedom Riders of the 1960s, a group of progressive protesters who rode buses from state to state, challenging racial segregation and Jim Crow travel laws. The Freedom Riders were usually arrested, and fell victim to mob violence, Ku Klux Klan beatings, and cruel and unusual punishment in prison.

Don't expect a secret agenda from Nicole, who will appear as a new series regular character this season. "A true bleeding heart," Nicole is "not at all concerned with money; she's concerned with the common good and doing what's right ... Life hasn't beaten her down yet." If you're still not getting a clear picture, the casting call suggests that she went to Bryn Mawr College and drives an old Saab.

Time for your dream casting, "True Blood" fans! What young actress do you think would fit in with the gang? How do you think Nicole will come into play, given the regime change in last season's finale?

I hope not, that storyline and his turnaround to hating vampires was just so out of left field without little development even with the whole "parents really killed by vampires" storyline. I hope they scrap that!

I much preferred the way they handled Sookie & Jason's parents being killed in the book
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Getting caught in the flash flood but being drowned by two evil water fairies. That would have made a lot more sense in the show and have bridged the gap between the main storyline and the fae since on the show the fae have had little to do with the main story arc.

I thought his concussion had a lot to do with his vampire hating this time around. Besides they killed his parents and I don't think it's hate I think he's just angry.

Exclusive: True Blood Adds Arliss Howard as Series Regular — Find Out Who He's Playing

True Blood has crowned a new king… of Louisiana, at least.

Arliss Howard (Rubicon, Medium) is joining the HBO drama’s forthcoming sixth season in the series regular role of Louisiana Governor Creighton Burrell, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The character is described as a good ol’ boy politician who has a major beef with vampires ever since his wife ran off with one, leaving him as a single father to their only daughter. Politically savvy and perhaps overly ambitious, Creighton tends to let his personal aspirations overshadow his humanity.

Howard’s other credits include the films Full Metal Jacket, Ruby, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Moneyball.

True Blood‘s sixth season is slated to premiere in June.

This show have enough characters as it is. That has been its problem for the past 4 seasons and I was hoping the new show runner would fix this but they seem to be making the same mistakes.

I don't think the problem is just bringing in more characters. The problem is how they handle them. These writers seem to think it's okay to have at least a dozen storylines running through each episode, with pretty much each and every character (even the ones who've lost relevance, or never really had it to begin with) off on their own adventures. Things just really need to get streamlined here.

yeah, terry and arlene should just go back to being quirky background characters, and Hoyt should just stay in Alaska (and please don't have the story follow him there, the last thing we need is some Inuit turtle demon seeking revenge against hoyt...on second thought that sounds awesome) and as much as it pains me to say, maybe they should start limiting Lafayette's exposure, I feel like he's had his journey, just let the guy take a break for a while.

I think the writers realize that the show has really moved past the small town folk of Bon Temps, but just isn't willing to let go of the actors, so they just keep giving them needless material.

Friday Night Lights grad Jurnee Smollett is Bon Temps-bound.

The actress is joining True Blood‘s upcoming sixth season as a series regular. Additionally, 90210‘s Amelia Rose Blaire has landed a recurring stint on the HBO hit.

Smollett, who will next been seen in NBC’s midseason thriller Do No Harm, will play Nicole, a do-gooder who possesses the rosy outlook of someone that life hasn’t beaten down yet. She’s not concerned with money and more concerned with the doing what’s right.

Blaire, meanwhile, will portray Willa, the daughter of Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell (played by Arliss Howard). She has long clashed with her father over vampire rights.

True Blood‘s sixth season is slated to premiere in June.
