Heya!

Cool shots Evil! I really need to try to do a band shoot one of these days of my friend, since I heard it's a real challenge and that's what I need at the moment. =) See how far I can push my 60D.

Dr. Lee,

Fun, huh? =)

Great pictures Ultimate. Your camera looks top-notch. One of these days I'll like to upgrade my Canon Rebel Xsi but I think I still have much to learn before I really invest in something. I believe my camera was 700-800$ when I got it 3 years ago.

I wouldn't mind taking a crack at a shot like this soon. Speaking of Photoshop, I'm looking forward to getting it once I get a new pc. As much as I enjoy Irfanview, it ain't cutting it anymore when it comes to my photography. Time to upgrade.

Yes, I agree. Lightroom for about 95% of my work, FYI.

Also, I don't know how he did it and could have used photoshop, but one way is too...

Use a really high ND filter so he has a slower shutter speed, or a high F Stop or a combination of both to do that.

Sounds about right, but if you analyze the picture, not all of them are moving so some of the people there shouldn't be blurred so I'm assuming it's photoshopped. Either way it's still a great shot and the colors are very vibrant.

Guys I can say this truthfully if you have any love for this hobby of ours, do not and I mean DO NOT ever enter into competing photography, it will kill your love for this faster than you can blink

I have just come from a competition round and I am not bitter because I didn't win, I expected not to but I am seething with anger over the judges comments there is critique and there is just plain insulting people.

Not into competition, my hands shake too much uncontrollably I need something that makes the picture steady

Thanks for the heads up though, it's appreciated

sorry mate i'm just ranting, i can take criticism but personally the judge seemed to be just ignorant. i mean these are the 3 i entered 2 you have seen

1.
IMG_1098 by dean irvine, on Flickr

judges comment: obviously taken at some stunt show, rather than a race or rally, so the photographer knew this event was going to happen not much thought, so all he had to do was frame the shot. completely predictable

2.
IMG_0882 by dean irvine, on Flickr

judges comment: over sharp, over busy and really just lacks any form of substance, in truth a confusing shot.

3.
IMG_0366 by dean irvine, on Flickr

judges comment:though sharp and well taken, all credit should do to the builders, all the photographer did was press click. complete lack of input and there is no point in a shot if the photographer has nothing to do with it.

thankfully after speaking to other members i'm not just being bitter, he seemed to annoyed quite a few of the members outside of the "inner circle"

Those judges are just using b.s. reasons because not every one can win.

i take it the judge woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning....

And he'd probably LOATHE the photos i took today of a certain Matt 'The Doctor' Smith...

So i grabbed the Master like this.....

I see your comment and raise you this finger

Flash was banned and the lighting on the stage was surprisingly low for the MCM Expo (aka Movie, Comic, Media Expo... A twice yearly event held at the Excel Centre here in London UK)... so the exposure was tricky.... plus i kinda ****ed my knee up this morning, which didn't help my concentration

**** them. These shots are awesome compared to the ones we see on the magazines or other websites where they use too much photoshop.

I know the feeling about judges, and all that happy go lucky jazz. I've submitted stuff for my local photography club, and all that won was landscape photo's and one picture of a lady holding a baby. Good shot, but none of mine we're accepted due, "no personal attachment to the people."

I was like...Seriously? I thought a photography club was to show off technical ability, knowledge to make a good photo. Ignorance is bliss, IMO.

I'm perfectly happy being an amateur and just enjoying photography. It seems nowadays, professional photography is all about stories told in a picture, extremely difficult shots in extreme locations...yeah I'll pass for now. Anyways, here's some more autumn shots...I promise this will the last autumn colors for the year...lol

This was my attempt at HDR.

This was taken a day or so before the hurricane flooded this river.

Midnyte,

Really, really like that first shot, and makes me wanna shot in a fall scene. Kinda hard out here, but going to look for this Thursday to see if it pans out, tho.

Here is a few test shots that I did with some new ETTL triggers, and these are straight out of camera and different settings to see how they do. I say they did a fairly good job, and will be using FEC in the future, but these worked out well. Make it easier to control menu's in back of camera when far away instead of running up.

Straight out of camera and pretty accurate besides a moving little boy. That's what created the color caste in some of the pictures due to him moving around and having a green wall. Shot these at different settings to get an idea, and it was pretty dark within the room. Just enough to get focus

1)

Shutter: 100
F - Stop: 2.8
ISO: 2000
Flash: ETTL/Bounced with Photek 46'' Umbrella

2)

Shutter: 125
F - Stop: 5.0
ISO: 2000
Flash: ETTL/Bounced with Photek 46'' Umbrella

3)

Shutter: 125
F - Stop: 3.2
ISO: 2000
Flash: ETTL/Bounced with Photek 46'' Umbrella

4)

(The hardest test)
Shutter: 125
F - Stop: 5.0
ISO: 200
Flash: ETTL/Bounced with Photek 46'' Umbrella

How far do you typically set your umbrella? For some reason, the third photo didn't load on my mobile. But I liked the 2nd one's settings, the most.
