If the tv show doesnt succeed - a distinct possibility - there won't be a movie. I guess WB is probably using the show to "test the waters", but I think a bit budget WW movie is now less likely to happen. Questionable strategy.

Thanks for the kind words Doc the potential for the character is enormous and it's being wasted everywhere. I know we all have our personalised WW movie in our heads and a distinct way we want to see it being made, but certain tenets of the character--I believe--should stand strongly even with distinct interpretations. The core of the character, so to speak. There's one thing I would not agree with a skeptical Diana from the beginning though. I firmly believe that Paradise Island should be Paradise Island. A Utopia; not a kind of fundamentalist nation where the people feel trapped (i.e. don't make it out to be the opposite of Saudi Arabia and by that token, very much like Saudi Arabia -- and I'm not trying to be offensive towards anyone, it's where I grew up so :P). That's one of the gripes I've had with the '09 DTV. You can still show Diana being a skeptic and progressively conflicting against her mother's philosophies (it makes sense that she'd participate in that contest) but that doesn't mean Hippolyta should be written out as some fascist queen ruler. I just think people ought to be a bit careful when considering the Amazons -- they're feminists, but the greatest misconception about feminism seems to be that they're chauvinists. It's not. Feminism doesn't simply mean matriarchy -- feminists don't make a utopia based on FEMININITY, they do it based on gender-equality, and ultimately on HUMANITY.

You can argue that this is what Diana strives for and accomplishes in the end, but that's still a point that should be made in the movie, as its end or otherwise.

What happens with Diana I think is that because she is this sort of soapbox for feminism, there's an objection to giving her an arc, because it means that she starts out unenlightened, and not the ideal. This is fine for most characters, but as WW has an ideal of real world justice to women, not having that ideal from the beginning feels like a statement that the ideal is not supremely important. Gender Equality should not have to be earned, after all. Likewise, the same soapbox inspires some to make Paradise Island a Utopia, (contradictorily believing in gender equality and eschewing men). This leaves her story with no room for growth or conflict outside of that of the villain, regardless of how well intentioned the desires are. While the core tenets of Batman are a genre, and even Superman has prototypical superhero, for some the core tenets of Wonder Woman are gender-political ideal. This provides a rather limited set of storytelling. It's not enough that this be the message of the film, but it must be adopted by every female character from the outset. This makes for a great teaching tool, but not a good story, and certainly not something that can bring masculinity and skeptics into the world that's being built. The best way to avoid preaching to the audience is to have the main character be the one being converted. This is Diana's 'lost guy with a beard' moment. She needs it if she is really going to be equal with Superman and Batman, and not just propped up to be equal as she has been in comics.

Let the Hippolyta be wrong. The movie isn't about her, it's okay if she's not perfect. Let Diana learn. This way the audience can get into these principles naturally as opposed to having them preached to them by some girl who just got here. Does that make Themyscira fundamentalist? Well... yeah. They're an isolationist monarchy with a blatantly sexist foreign policy. What's cool about that, and different from SA is that everyone except Diana 'gets it.' Everyone else is totally down for this except for Diana, because she's the only one that hasn't dealt with men before.

I don't understand the obsession with Diana looking mature. The actress should have presence, and be able to ACT mature and with gravitas when the film calls for it, but an origin film about Diana is likely going to be about a younger woman.

well she is called wonder woman not wonder girl she should look mature just like hemsworth,cavill,bale,etc. all had a mature look even reeve at 26 in stm had a mature look

why do fans who have certain criteria for mature look for characters like superman,thor,batman dont bring that same criteria for woman woman?


WW should'nt look like suggestions like younger actors like amber heard


but more like a atwell who still looks young at 30 but has a mature look to her where she legitimately look like a tough strong woman




not someone like heard who could be super girl lol

Keira Knightly can play a teen in Bend it like Beckham and turn around and play in Pirates looking as old as Orlando Bloom(eight years his junior) and she wasn't even twenty years old.

A young actress can still project maturity if she's talented enough and make it look effortless.

That wasn't the point. You're worried about how a young person would look in a group of older men and I gave you an example that a young actress can project and hold their own with them( Depp and Bloom).

I don't understand your logic. A warrior is about strength. Strength is associated with youth. Wisdom is associated with maturity.

So a young actress(strong) who projects maturity(wisdom) beyond her age can do the same job as a naturally older actress.


This is just my opinion. I'm just not going to be dismissive of someone for thinking different as if their are requirements or can't be done a multitude of ways.

i just think WW needs to have a strong physical look to her especially in her face

it is why xena and dejah thoris were convincing warrior because they had a very strong look to them and looked like bad asses

Holy ****! I'm so excited for the new WW show!!! Mainly because now the guys at CW have the perfect layout of how NOT to handle Wonder Woman with NBC's pilot.

Choices for Wonder Woman:

1) Bridget Regan
2) Emily Blunt
3) Kaley Cuoco
4) Mary Elizabeth Winstead
5) Gina Carano

As far as I'm concerned, Bridget Regan already has the part, and this isn't even up for debate. If for some reason Bridget can't do it, Emily Blunt is the best actress in my top5 so it goes to her. After Emily, Kaley has shown she has the charisma and fierceness to do Wonder Woman. MEW is young, up and coming, talented and looks very similar to Lynda Carter. Gina Carano would be number 1 on my list if she was a proven actor.

Exactly, and the CW has alot of comic book writers/fans, scifi writers and people who really get these fantastic characters. Now they did have that awful Birds of Prey show a few years ago (although they had a very spot on Barbara Gordon on that show). Most of their shows are already geared towards comic book fans while not alienated the GA. Having seen the NBC WW pilot, they could do alot better. The only bright spot on that show was Adrianne Palicki. I mean she is pretty well suited for what we are looking for; she is an actress and someone who loves comic books, so she has alot of respect for the source material. Kelley's script just was all over the place. If he had just focused on her as a lone warrior trying to fit into man's world and still had to deal with the machinations of the gods then he maybe could of had a good show. But where they went wrong right out the gate was the horrible costume AND for a female warrior show, your star has to aleast look like she can punch a dude in the face and not break her arm! They should have waited 4 months and gave Palicki all that time in the gym to build her body up! Plus actually get a real costume designer because whoever they used on that one could only think to use a halloween costume from the dollar store?

I saw a bit of her as WW, and I wasn't fussy on her. With Lucy Lawless as Xena, she was a strong and tough female, but she had this very warm and human side. Palicki was pure psycho in that rolen didn't like her.

That was almost entirely bad writing and bad direction. Palicki did a great job playing the character, but the character was written and directed as pure psycho. Go watch some of Palicki's other stuff, particularly Friday Night Lights--she's a really good actress. I'd love to see her get another shot at WW.

And if the Red Dawn remake and GI Joe: Retaliation that she's in both do well, they might consider it.
