I've looked back a few pages and it was mentioned then.

I think it said the first issue was scheduled for September release, but obviously there has been some delay.

,I'm doubting it right now But I'm hoping so bad that one day in the near future I read and article with the headline reading"Dredd gets a sequel AND Karl Urban returns for the role"
i watched Dredd on netflix like 20 times. It's awesome and deserves at least a trilogy. They messed up the marketing or the movie would have skyrocked like all the other action movies. They need a sequel to make things right.

The way I see it, if kick ass can get a sequel so can this, we just may have to wait a few years for it to get momentum. As long as the film makers keep pushing. They should try taking it to legendary.

^Kick-Ass made treble its budget WW at the box office though, Dredd didnt even make its budget back once, that is the difference I am afraid and a big one at that.

Karl Urban came on last and one of the first questions asked was if there is any chance of a Dredd sequel. In what should be music to fans ears, he said "conversations" are taking place between the studio, the director and writer Alex Garland. He commented that the cinema release of Dredd was badly handled but the film had found its audience on DVD and it has been noticed by the studio.

Only reservation would be they'd likely still be confined to a small budget. Worked fine for Dredd as most it took place in the Peach Trees Block, but a more expansive Mega City story would be pricier.

A Cursed Earth one though perhaps?

I'd be there day one. The first movie was brilliant. I'm not even a Dredd comic fan but I feel that was the best CBM of 2012

Would love so much for this to get a sequel, it deserves one so much more than so many movies that do get sequels.

And yeah as another poster mentioned it would be nice to see it set in The Cursed Earth.

would dearly love to see it happen. About the budget, setting it in the Cursed Earth could be really cost effective. What was the budget of Preist? (weirdly enough, also starring Urban).

No pointless 3D this time though, pretty please?

Hehey, there is hope. Always is, after all "Serenity" got made.

Dredd was a beast of a film. Unforgiving, uncompromising and solid as my biceps 15 years ago.

Watched it last year, and easily within top5 that year for me.

I really would like to see this happen. Dredd was awesome. Just flat out awesome, and it deserves a sequel! I didn't expect much prior to watching it, but I came away very impressed with it. Great Blu Ray blind buy on my part

I think Priest costs $60 million if my memory serves, and Bettany would have cost more than any actor in Dredd did.

I definitely think a Cursed Earth movie could be done for $60 million, and yeah drop the 3D this time.

So long as we get to finally see Judge Death I'm fine. Lionsgate obviously has the funds to back it if they wanted to co-finance with all that Hunger Game money weighing them down. Urban has always been more of a fanboy actor but I think the success of Almost Human has garnered some more average joe fans.

Personally, I think Dredd would be the perfect film for Netflix to fund. IMO, Netflix really was the platform where most people have fallen in love with Dredd 3D and it would be a way for Netflix to expand upon their original programing beyond just TV Shows and acquiring documentaries.

If Netflix was willing to pay $100 million for House of Cards, I'm sure that they can plunk down $30-40 million to make a Dredd sequel.

With the way they were setting up the universe in Dredd 3D, I don't think that Cursed Earth would be a good follow up. I think that Garland's ideas for a sequel would be the best route:

“If I got a chance to work on the sequel, and if there was a sequel (and there are a lot of variables in that). But, from my point of view, the politics is a lot of what I want to get into. There’s a lot of stuff that’s implied in the first film that you could really explore a lot more of in the second. Dredd is part of a police state, he’s a fascist. The subversives are sometimes the enemy in the comic books – there’s something really interesting about pro-democracy terrorists. Where the bad guys are the people fighting for democracy. Of course they’re not the bad guys, because you should be fighting for democracy. I would like to explore that.”

I think one of my friends summed up Dredd the best. He isn't a hero, he's a fascist with a set of morals and a code of honor with good intentions. To sum it up, he would be like the equivalent of Joseph Goebbels or Heinrich Himmler in the Nazi regime if they were somewhat decent guys. He's not the worst and has some good qualities, but in the end, still a relatively deplorable person.

I'd love a sequel. I knew Judge Dredd was based off a comic book, but I really didn't pay any attention to the character at all. Now more than ever, I want to read the comics.

I knew very little about Dredd going in, mostly what I knew from the Stallone abomination. I enjoyed it far more than I ever expected to. It was an amazing movie CBM or otherwise. I'd love to see a sequel and they choose the perfect Dredd.
