So gutted to hear this movie didnt get the numbers it wanted for a sequal from ticket sales. I guess it flew too much under the radar to make what it wanted and came out when other string films were out.
Such a shame when you consider some of the utter guff that gets sequals and threequals these days. Hope DVD sales will make up the difference but its a long shot I guess. Glad we do have one decent 18 rated comic book movie at least in the world now.

I thought it was pretty good. I "never" read the comics though I've known who the character is for years. I notice he never removes the helmet this time. No nutty comic relief from Rob Schneider. Lena Heady was unrecognizable here. She's not really dealt with in-depth as far as motivation-- you just have to accept she's a nasty piece of work.. I wasn't expecting the corrupt-judges subplot-- was this in the comics often?

Corrupt judges have been there from time to time. Dredd's own clone brother (Rico) turned bad, and like all other corrupt judges was sent to Titan for Life imprisonment in a hard labour camp (their faces are surgically mutilated so they can breathe there, which is how they could show Rico's full face when he escaped without showing us what Dredd really looks like).
And the SJS (Special Judicial Squad) are like a present day Internal Affairs (only more bad@ss) and are in place to deal with them, however one famous classic storyline dealt with them being corrupted themselves by their insane leader (Judge Cal).

Looks like its domestic BO run is pretty much done, shame, it looks like it wont even get to $14 million.

It only lasted a month at the megaplex my way. It's moved to the one bargain theater here were movies are $1.50 all the time.
Sad. It deserved so much better than this.

seriously this film barely makes half its budget back yet complete horse **** like Resident Evil: Retribution makes nearly 4 times it
that just makes it all clear, whats the point of producing a decent, fun truthful to the source film when you can slap on a title that has lost all meaning and use it as a vehicle just to promote your spouses dying career |

^I know, its so annoying and frustrating, so many movies make money year upon year that they dont deserve to while actual good movies cant, it baffles me.

Well, I guess I'll chalk this up as another movie I've really liked that wont get the sequel it deserves. The A-Team was the last movie I saw I felt deserved a sequel.....

Olivia Thirlby was in Juno, The Wackness and Being Flynn. I'm pretty sure she's American.

What movie makers will take away from BO performance of Dredd
1. You HAVE to show the actors face. 2. You HAVE to make a superhero movie PG13 3. You HAVE to use the cliché plots and beats of superhero movies. It's a shame. |

Well, Judge Dredd isn't really a superhero, to be fair.

As far as the general audience were concerned it was a superhero movie.

2. V For Vendetta was rated R. 3. the hero in V for Vendetta dies at the end. Dredd suffered from, as others have stated, poor marketing, and a preceding film that was very poorly received. I hate when people try to make it all about, "The studios don't like making hard R superhero films, blah, blah, blah." Yet you have films like Blade which was successful enough to spawn a franchise. Not to mention TWO separate Punisher films!!! |

Urban on any possible sequel:
"It's too early to say. We made this film as a one-off, and we believe from the audience's response that it's an instant cult classic. "If we get to make more, that would be fantastic, if not, I'm okay with that because it's a great film and it's had a great response, and it'll just go down as what it is, which is just a great classic film." http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertai...-1226503448532 |

^Well too early to say sounds like there is still a possibility, I wonder does it depend on DVD/BD sales or something else?
Either way, as long as there is a bit of hope with the sequel, i'll keep hoping.
