Also comicbookresources are doing a live update with the conference call with Hickman about this book, just remember to keep refreshing the page:http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=41396

Quote:
Hickman's roster for "Avengers" is large, and early on when he and Brevoort spoke about the roster, one of the first things they agreed on was that the roster should "look more like the world." Currently, Marvel has revealed the biggest most iconic characters on the team, but Hickman says by issue #7, the issue will feature "more obscure characters," some of which are revamped versions of old characters, others of which are completely new. He says the roster will feature 22 characters, 12 of which will be female or minority.

The conversation shifted to the mysterious "New Avengers" team, which Jonathan revealed consists of the Illuminati, which was introduced in Brian Bendis' "New Avengers."

"It's about the guys that very quietly and secretly run the world," he said. "It's thematically much different than what's going on in 'Avengers.' The plan that I've worked up is that the Avengers are the utopian Avengers. They're the ideal Avengers, whereas the New Avengers are real-world. They live in the world as it is, which is dark and apocalyptic. It's very old-school. We're pretty excited about it. The books will work together, in tandem. You don't have to read both of them, but if you do, there will be things that echo across the books."

The roster is Captain America, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt -- Namor is involved in the book because "What causes the guys to come back together is such a momentous thing that they have to put aside all differences." The way they get back together has to do with Black Panther and an event that occurs in Wakanda. "Even though they don't like each other and don't get along, they have to save each other from stuff they know is threatening."

No, that's the symbol for Hickman's New Avengers book. It's on the New Avengers cover images I posted too.

Ok. I will very much have to check out Hickman's books. New Avengers (Illuminati) sounds very interesting, and with Epting and D'Armata on art it's gonna look beautiful. And those covers are eerily beautiful.

Hyperion.

And I don't know. The book sorta sounds interesting but I could probably pass on it without missing much. The most intriguing thing for me is that it seems Beast takes Xavier's place in the Illuminati. And as usual, it's shipping twice in January... which sucks.

I don't know. I'll at least thumb through it but I highly doubt I try it. This and Avengers both are "thrumb through but highly doubt I buy it."

That's what I thought at first but the different symbol threw me off.

I'm with you about NA, I'm gonna take a wait and see attitude. I don't even understand the name New Avengers, none of these guys are new. Why not just call it "Avengers: Illuminati"?

Is reading Hickman's New Avengers dependent on also reading his Avengers?

He said each book is independent of each other, but they will compliment each other if you read them together.

Hopefully off the Avengers and back in Heroes for Hire, where they belong.

Dang. I really didn't want to read another Avengers title. Uncanny Avengers and Avengers is already too many. But since this seems to be dealing with the fallout between Namor and Black Panther... I might have to read it.

Hickman said 12/22 avengers he's using initially will be chicks/minorities

this AINT street level!

Hickman just gets it. I know he's had a few missess..but IMO the guy is the right guy for this franchise. I like how he at least respects continuity, and acknowledges it, but isnt afraid to do his own thing and let it strangle his stories. I am very excited for this book.

Also note the close up of the fingers in the one cover appear to be the infinity gems. The fingers conversely, seem to make the Kree/mar-vell symbol.

So is Marvel Now, basically, the new 52?

From a marketing standpoint it is, sure. Marvel NOW is not a reboot of the universe like the New 52 was. All of Marvel's history remains intact.

It's getting annoying to have to answer that question at least twice a day.

Both Avengers books seem interesting, but with both shipping twice a month, I have to pass on principle alone at this point.

You'd think the lack of people b***hin' like crazy would be an indicator that it's not a reboot.
