I think James Nesbitt could be a good Doctor, and he's worked with Moffat before.

He'd be a better Master than a Doctor. There is something unwholesome about him.
The Doctor may have decided that he is white by now, but I'll tell you who would make a ****ing awesome Doctor: Richard Ayoade. |

Good god. If you think Matt Smith is quirky, he's nowhere near Ayoade's league.

I've never seen Richard Ayoade acting in anything other than comedies so I'm not sure he could pull off the more dramatic scenes in Doctor Who.
I think we have been lucky with the fact that Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith are all good actors.

Did anyone watch the new episode of Red Dwarf? If so head over to the Red Dwarf X thread and discuss....

Cumberbatch for the Master. That is the only thing allowed to happen.

It is the general idea of time travel. You see it pop up all over the place since Moffat took over. His relationship with River, the end of the newest episode, how the Ponds witnessed his "Death" a hundred years before he did, etc.

Cumberbatch is getting Hollywood gigs now, so beyond Sherlock I don't know if he'd want another TV role. He'd be great as the Master though if Moffat could talk him into doing it.
And should the Master return I'd prefer a more basic sinister take, sans the goatee (or 'rubbish beard'...) and overtly villainous laugh, than the hysterics of RTD's vision.

Tbh, I don't think I've ever seen a SHH! critique on RTD Who that didn't seem like an exaggeration or slight misinterpretation.

Not sure what you mean here, because really any critique of RTD's Who is pretty valid outside of "he literally destroyed my childhood".

I mean, for example, one of the posts that claims RTD had some hatred of Rose's successors, characters he created himself. No doubt that Martha wasn't put on a pedestal, but to act like she was some blacksheep is kinda silly. The whole "you're not replacing her" thing was thrown out early on and 10 accepted her as a companion. Martha ended up being a badass who saved the world and moved on from The Doctor, something neither Rose nor Donna could really do on their own.
And I shouldn't have to mention how well Donna turned out. Way too well written to be a successor RTD "hated". I'm not gonna act like RTD didn't have his flaws, but some of the complaints about him seem exaggerated at times. |

However, he had several notable flaws while writing the show. While not an issue at first, Davies' personal bias against the military and authority figures began to bleed into the show. Not only did the Doctor grow increasingly intolerant toward the military (even his own allies in UNIT), but the military are simply portrayed as much more unreasonable than they've been depicted in this franchise in the past. Davies also seemed to have a difficult time crafting his more "fantastic" plots. He had a habit of writing himself into a corner and sometimes had to come up with totally implausible solutions. There also are many times when characters know things that will help them advance the plot, but how they know these things is never explained. Examples include Pete Tyler knowing when to catch Rose in Doomsday, and knowing exactly one year ahead of time that the Master would have a countdown to an unknown thing ready. Whenever Davies tried to create a flaw to make his characters well rounded, he only succeeded in making them unlikable. Rose's dilemma about her relationships to both the Doctor and Mickey make her seem like an uncaring an selfish girl either doesn't know or doesn't care how much she's hurting Mickey by stringing him along. The 10th Doctor's journey of personal growth make him look like a hypocrit and a monster. Rather than come off as a war-hardened soldier trying to adopt a life of pacifism, he comes off as a remorseless killer who condemns similar actions in others. He chides his clone for killing Daleks in one episode, and kills Cybermen in the next.

Yeh, RTD was good with doing say, the first 80% of anything. Character, plot, arc, whatever. But then he'd realise that suddenly he had everyone doing utterly stupid things and was like "CAPT JACK!!!!" and just pulled the solution out of his arse.

I didn't get the chance to put this in my earlier post, but: The end of New Earth was absolutely stupid. In order to cure the diseased humans, the Doctor simply mixed every medication in the hospital in a huge vat and sprayed everyone with it. I don't know much about medicine, but I know mixing medication is reckless, dangerous, and not guaranteed to work.

I know this is more of a director thing, but I always hated the way the Doctor pointed his sonic screwdriver at computer monitors instead of the towers.
