Captain America 2: News and Speculation - Part 1

You're the one who seems to see him as a black meat puppet. I never suggested anything of the sort.

You did exactly that when you suggested that Fury, played by an iconic Black actor, turn out to be possessed/inhabited by a white man's soul. The Ultimate version of the character was based on Samuel L. Jackson's likeness, so why would you even think that Marvel suddenly decide that the character is actually a version of 616 Fury? The MCU's Fury is a separate version of the character who was selected specifically for the movie universe. If they wanted the 616 Fury they simply would have used him and hired a white actor to play him.

If I was scripting this, here's how I'd approach the movie:

Movie opens with Winter Soldier carrying out a high-level political assassination somewhere. SHIELD starts investigating.

Cut to Steve Rogers. Man Out of Time. Superhero. First Avenger. He's still trying to adjust to the 21st century (show several funny and sad scenes of him trying to adapt to this strange new world). He's looking for his place in this new world, and he turns back to what he knows --- soldiering. The US military is working hard to recruit him as their go-to PR guy, and Steve is more than willing to pick up where he left off all those years ago.

So Cap rejoins the US military as their all-star. Heads off to Afghanistan or some other relevant battlefield. Montage some successful missions against the Taliban, and then key in on one particular mission that features Cap going up against a Blackwater-type "security specialist" (read: mercenary) whose gone off the reservation in Kabul or somewhere and is now leading his own private war. It's become a PR disaster for the US, and they need this guy eliminated. He's even taken on a menacing look and nickname to reflect his renegade status: "Crossbones."

Meanwhile, Fury and his SHIELD agents are getting closer to uncovering the identity of the mysterious "Winter Soldier" assassin. Fury, or Widow, or Sam Wilson, or Sharon Carter, or a very old Peggy Carter or former Howling Commando, begins to notice something unusual when he/she goes back through some classified photos of previous assassinations that seemed to follow the same m.o. These are assassinations that took place all over the world, over the past seventy years or so. In each case, the assassination followed a strategy/weaponry similar to Winter Soldier's --- even stranger still, the photos seem to show a guy(s) who look remarkably similar to Winter Soldier himself. Twenty years ago....forty years ago....almost seventy years ago. And this "Winter Soldier" doesn't seem to have aged a bit in any of those photos.

Back to Cap and Crossbones in the desert. Massive throwdown. Great fight scene. Cap wins, of course, and Crossbones is captured. The commanding officer calls Cap in after the mission and says that Steve's presence is personally requested by Nick Fury himself to aid in this high-profile mission against the Winter Soldier assassin. Fury?! Steve has nothing to say to that guy, not after the events in the Avengers. He doesn't trust him as far as he can throw him ---

Then Fury drops the bomb. "Cap....it's Bucky. He's....still alive."

Setup isn't the problem, it's what happens next.

Fury strikes me as the kind who would want the Winter Soldier taken out of the picture before he can take more lives, even if he knows the man is really a brainwashed and otherwise innocent American soldier. He might not prefer to kill him, but capturing him would be too difficult.

And he probably can't count on Cap to put Bucky down if he needed to.

Even if he could, it would be too sadistic to ask Cap to be the one to do the deed.

@cherokeesam: Overall, I really like that setup, however, my one tweak would be for Cap rather than Fury to figure out that the Winter Soldier is actually Bucky, since I think that would be the more emotionally impactful scenario.

Basically, Fury sends Cap off on a mission to eliminate the Winter Soldier. Cap (and possibly Fury) tail the Winter Soldier and Cap finally figures out that he is, in fact, Bucky, without getting to the 'how' of it yet.

A nice finale would be for Fury (incapacitated/wounded by the Winter Solder) to give the kill order, but Cap refuses when he realizes Winter Soldier's identity. Bucky somehow snaps out of it and remembers who he is... not by means of a knock to the head mind you, ala Black Widow/Hawkeye.

Falcon then joins the party, and Cap, Bucky, Falcon and Fury lay the smackdown on a whole bunch of menacing baddies led by Crossbone in an epic battle. Roll credits.

Instead of Fury or anyone else asking/ordering Cap to go kill Winter Soldier, how about The Handler (whoever he is) orders Winter Soldier to kill Cap?

Cap would likely be a high profile target for WS' handler. If it's anyone with a background in HYDRA and/or the Nazis --- Zemo, Zola, Von Strucker, Madam Hydra, Faustus, etc. --- then they've got a personal score to settle with Cap, now that they know their age-old nemesis is alive and kicking. And even if the handler doesn't have Nazi ties --- e.g., Lukin --- they'd still love the symbolism of taking out the biggest living symbol of the US of A. Think of how damaging that would be to American morale.

When I grew up collecting, Cap's title always read "Captain America and the Falcon." Luke Cage is part of Heroes for Hire and Power-Man/Iron Fist, not Cap's mythos.

I'm not a huge Falcon fan but I don't really understand why there are so many anti-falcon people.

I think with enough imagination the folks at Marvel could come up with a workable movie version of the character just like they have done with Thor, Loki, Captain America, Hulk and so on.

We already saw winged superhero/villains such as Angel and Angel Salvador in the X-Men movies to which audiences were fine with.

Whedon wrote Wasp as an Avenger in an earlier version of the script for the movie before he knew Scarlet would be back for Black Widow. She is a winged character.

I thought he was good in The Adjustment Bureau and Eagle Eye. Haven't seen anything else he's been in.

Oh i like him as an actor. No problems there, i think he will do fine. Just dont think he looks much like the falcon from the comics. Although i didnt think that about evans before captain america either, so im remaining cautiously optimistic.

Do you mean that his face doesn't look the way Sam Wilson/Falcon is drawn in the comics? If that's your hangup, it's doubtful that Marvel could ever find anyone who looks exactly like the drawings, and that's not what they're after. Mackie is a handsome, well-built man who has trained to become very muscular, so in physique does look like the character. Plus, he looks really hot.




Imagine The Falcon's suit on that body. Those arms were meant to sport red wings. And Redwing, too.

Yep. Plus they should throw in Daredevil, The Inhumans, The Eternals and the New Warriors too. I want Cap to be in this movie as little as possible.

Since the falcon Is likely to be based on Ultimate version and I never read the winter soldier storyline my Intrest In this film Is due to 2 factors

1:Chris Evans as Cap
2:Scarlett Johansson(I will pay to see anything with her as Black Widow)

If Baron Zemo ends up the main villain and they have Sharon Carter as Cap's LI that
Increases my Intrest.Basiclly more classic 616 stuff the better.

You're right. He does look much better with his buffed up body. I'm sure he will do great. And he has that friend of the main character thing down, as seen in man on a ledge.
