Yes, it is.
So far it's had great characterization of Batman, a strong dual focus on both Batman and Bruce Wayne (something most Batman books never have), a strong emphasis on Batman's villain(s), and solid plotting; in essence, it boils down what Batman stories really are about; Batman, Bruce Wayne, and his impressive collection of villains, and lends them strong characterization without having to resort to any cheap palor tricks to keep the reader entertained. Detective looks like it will be that way too, honestly. But I need to see some more of it before I praise it too heavily.

If we go by the last issues before the #0 I'd put Batman & Robin at #1

Batman & Robin is very good, but there's something just a little off about it to me. I can't really put my finger on it though.
The Batman/Robin characterization is perfect, of course. Maybe it's his choice of villains, maybe it's his lack of Bruce/Damian, non-superheroing interaction, but there's just something holding it back from being "the best".

I agree. I think the problem I had with this most recent arc is that the Terminus idea and the war of the Robins would have worked better as separate arcs. They dovetailed okay at the end of issue 12 but neither one of them left me with much impact.
Another thing I miss from pre-new 52 Batman and Robin is the 3 issue arc format. It went a little haywire after Morrison left with rotating creative teams but I'd love to have that style of 3 issue arcs bleeding into one another to build a larger story to come back in one of the Bat titles. I always thought it was a nice compromise between decompression and shorter, more tightly plotted stories. |

I really enjoyed Detective Comics #13. The presence of John Layman made me give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Another Batman book on my monthly buy-list, geez!

I did
![]() The first story with Alfred seemed a little ott though But as its not in continuity i did get a laugh out of the idea of Alfred setting Bruce up to get smacked around just because he was sick of Bruce getting drunk and talking about how amazing he is I like to imagine its set in the All Star continuity with Alfred finally getting sick and tired of the goddamn Batman and his nonsense

I prefer the Earth One version who actually beats Bruce to get him to wake up to himself.

I am looking forward to Death of the Family. However, I suspect I will probably have to collect the collected editions, as I am unable to access a comic book store, and shipping is a killer. I recommend checking the preview and additional interview DC posted today.

Oh you
So the new issue of Batgirl is out this week. As Batwoman should still be guest starring in it I'll be picking that up

I read it, but it wasn't that great. I hope this ends up different to Lovers and Madmen, because for some strange reason, I think it will go very similarly.
