Take the Arkham costume, remove the panties, darken the gray parts, color the belt black and make the "ears" slightly thinner and straighter.

...

Profit.

Huh? Not only do these not look anything alike, one isn't even close to inspiring the other. Something like this is what they should have been trying to emulate.

No they didn't.

The costume in The Avengers was meant to be an updated version of his USO costume. It was intended to be a symbol. Something inspiring as opposed to functional like the second suit he had at the end of TFA.

It was brand new and unused....

Captain America is supposed to bright. colorful, and clean.

He wasn't for TFA because because it was war.

TFA at least looked like something you'd actually wear, Avengers costume just looks so effing stupid. It's makes no sense why he's even wearing it in Avengers. TFA is such a great middle ground for what really is a ridiculous looking costume, and instead of updating that costume they went full on comic book for Avengers. It's a well designed cosplay.

Cap's Avengers costume takes me out of the film everytime I watch it. Even a blatantly CG character like the Hulk meshes into the fabric of the film better than Cap's costume does.

The only problem with Caps Avengers suit was that HILARIOUS helmet. He looked so goofy, the costume was fine I guess, could have been much better, but I think The Winter Soldier will correct the suits problems.

And TFA costume>TA costume

I'll agree the helmet looks wonky in pictures, but in motion I didn't notice at all.

Agreed. I don't see Captain America. I see someone dressed as Captain America as Comic Con.

The helmet was by far the worst part.

I don't think there was that much wrong with the helmet...it was the way the helmet was integrated into the rest of the suit, varied in materials, etc...it just looked awkward.

Works much better for Aquaman than it does for Superman.

Captain America? He's a propaganda figure and his costume is a symbol.

Hulk? See Iron Man ^^^
Thor, Loki and Thanos? Warriors from a different world.
Black Widow, Hawkeye and Nick Fury? Spies in spy gear.

I hope the characters in the Justice League movie also have practical reasons to wear their costumes. So far I can find good reasons for every character to wear their costumes except for the Flash. What reason does he have to wear his suit?
Marathon runners do wear spandex in recent years to reduce wind resistance.

Plus the comics and tv show said it was made out of special material that doesn't burn up over the friction of high speeds. I would also add for a film version to have subtle padding to protect a little against high speed impact he may have.

Speaking of Batman's costume, I keep seeing people refer to spandex costumes such as the Dead End costume as the "comic accurate" costume. Whether you disagree or agree with that costume being used in live-action, I would like to point out that that is in fact not the costume from the comics.

Just because something looks like spandex doesn't mean that it is spandex. The Batman costume from the comics is in fact made out of a fabric material (usually accompanied with fabric armor, which does exist) and it's been that way since Crisis in the 80's. The only reason why it is drawn to look more like spandex as opposed to fabric is because it looks better on page. But in the DC universe itself, Batman does not wear spandex.

So technically, even though the Dead End costume looks more like the costume from the comics, it is in fact not the costume from the comics. Thus I really don't understand how people can defend the Dead End type of spandex costume being used in a live-action movie with the defense "It's what he wears in the comics!" No it isn't.

It's been that way since before 1986. It was initially brought in in 1940 in a story written by Bill Finger.
