Coulson in this film.. here's my thoughts..

So upon watching Avengers last night, for the 20 something -eth time as its on in the background while im working at home, i have some thoughts on what they may be trying to do with Coulson. I really dont think they dropped 4 or more references to the character Vision for no reason. So here is what I think. We will see him in the Antman movie. There will be some back story that explains that Hank built him for shield at some point in the past, and when shield wanted more for soldiers, Hank wanted out, which is why Coulson is the only one. I think we'll see Hank rebuild Coulson, maybe from the persuasion of Janet, since they were all close at some point. This would also tie Coulson to the two other Avengers. They may also tie in Tony in that the AI used to build Vision/Coulson may be based off the Jarvis AI and that maybe Hank helped Tony develope that system, but Tony never knew Hank took it further to a full android as it was kept secret with shield. ... Or he's just gone.. Lol .. Again, i dont think they would of dropped so many references though for no reason. I also think the name Vision will actually be the code name for Hanks shield secret project, as the android soldier is shield's vision of the future soldier since they had given up on the super soldier serum after so many failures. However, since Cap is back, they will probably try to open up the super soldier research again.

Yeah, Hank->Ultron->Vision... I get this is the MCU and they can change stuff, but seriously, some things you just don't F with lol. Vision is one of them, imho.

Why would SHIELD have built an android Coulson/Vision, and then made him basically an errand boy whose main duty was to wipe Tony Stark's ass? Plus, if he was an android, he showed no manifestations of androidly/Visionly power (like super strength, phasing through walls, being made of steel and circuitry instead of blood and bone, etc.)

Plus, the whole bit about Hank making an android and then SHIELD wanting more copies for soldiers and Hank wanting out is an exact ripoff of Tony Stark's story, so audiences would call b.s. on that one.

Good effort, though. As Jaqua said, alter your story a bit and it might go somewhere.

References - three references to the cellist girlfriend, scarlet witch was a cellist, I believe the only character in the Marvel universe to be a cellist, and i also think they may bring her in with the Dr strange film. Then Fury's line "lost my one good eye". That is 4. im sure there is another i am forgetting

As for the time line - remember this the cinematic universe, I seriously doubt they will have time to do the full ultron arc and then followed it up with Vision after words. So they may shuffle things around a bit.

Again, this could completely wrong, but I don't think they dropped all those references for nothing.

And Coulson was by no means an errand boy, he was one of Shields' top agents, just under Fury. They talk about it in the Avengers DVD, and they say he's on the same level as Maria Hill, not under her.

And as far as his personality goes, the character has never shown any real emotion until he met Captain America. He's was pretty dry and emotionless every other time. And.. how did he get into Stark Tower and up the elevator that Stark personally fixed the security system for? Blood.. yeah.. not sure on that one...

Oh, and, Hank is the pacifist character, they can't get around that unless they do the craptastic wife beater version from the ultimates, which I surely hope they do not.

Regarding personality, and getting into Stark's apartment, it's because COULSON WAS A BADASS!!!1!

Regarding the "hints"... No. Just... No.

Let's go over all of them so this isn't dragged out:

-Cellist: When has Wanda ever been a cellist? The only artistic side I ever recalling seeing from her was a Busiek-era issue of "Avengers" where she performed a Transian folk dance. Even if she ever did play one in the comics, she's never been particularly known as a cellist. It'd be a pointless reference. Just look at it like this: they wanted a fun, minor character beat for Coulson, Whedon threw "cellist" out there.

-"Dr. Strange" isn't necessarily getting a movie yet. Marvel WANTS to do one, and it would be awesome, but even speculating that Scarlet Witch would be in that is a reach at this point.

-"I've lost my one good eye." Fury was sad. Fury only has one eye. That was the meaning to that line.

I love Coulson, and am sad that he's gone (even if he did die like a BAMF). I also love Vision, and think it'd be great to see him on screen. Coulson isn't Vision. Why are people still going on about this.

Cellist-wise, I think our best bet is that Kate Bishop is actually their secret love child. She's actually known for playing the cello and she's a badass at everything just like Phil.

Yeah, the cellist thing --- Kate Bishop is the only "known" cellist in the Marvel U; I challenge you to find a single instance where Wanda Maximoff ever picked up a cello. If you're hanging your hopes on the cellist reference, then Coulson is more likely to be Eli Bradley than Vision.

And if they wanted to even hint that Coulson was Vision, they would've done something he's actually known for, like, you know, phasing through walls, shooting laser beams out of a diamond on his forehead, being red and green, and being all android-y and stuff.

I think you're seriously reaching with that "one good eye" reference applied to Vision. It refers to Fury's loss of his own eye since he wears an eye patch. Even if it referred to Coulson, it still is a stretch that it really hints at Vision.

I'm sure we can find other obscure lines in the MCU movies to supposedly refer to other characters if we try hard enough.

The Avengers dialogue also goes to great pains to mention that Coulson's gf is from Portland. Wanda Maximoff has never been from Portland (either Maine or Oregon). You know who's from Portland, Oregon? Mercury. So are we to infer that Coulson was dating a jailbait X-Men teenager? Hell, I'll go with that theory over Wanda.

it doesn't say she is from portland, just that it is where she is at currently.

I do think if Black Widow and/or Hawkeye get solo films, even one together(Budapest, right?) that Coulson could appear as essentially that's a flashback tale, pre-Avengers movie.

Same for if Fury gets a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie down the road. I think Coulson could come back on a limited basis, the time frame gaps are there for it to happen.

He just isn't going to be Vision.

Pym could have built an LMD for Fury; knowledge of which he kept to himself. could either mean that the LMD died in Coulson's stead. or it could mean that Coulson was always an LMD; someone that a guy like Fury might actually trust. either way, i think it'd be cool if Pym (or the Pyms) had developed Life Model Decoys for S.H.I.E.L.D.
