....Spider-Man has lost his spidey sense. It also appears he wears goggles to protect his eyes. As has been speculated all of this points to O'Hara being the new Spider-Man, but that would be too obvious at this point and wouldn't explains that cover of the Superior Spider-Man kissing MJ. My guess is that somehow in 700 Peter's body loses its powers along with becoming fused with Doc Ock. But since he still wants to protect people, we're shown in Avenging Spider-Man 15.1 (the comic that's being released alongside Amazing 700 and is supposed to give closure to it) he develops a new suit that makes up for his lack of powers. And thus, it would make the "Superior" title an ironic label, since this new version of Spider-Man is actually physically weaker and less "amazing" than the old one...yet you could also say he's mentally superior for still wanting to help people even without his powers.

Yeah, I notice the lack of spider-sense in those images as well. And I also agree that, based on where things stand right now (especially with those linking variant covers for Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Superior Spider-Man #1) it does look very plausible that like we're going to get a Peter Parker/Doc Ock merge a la Firestorm. Especially given how Amazing Spider-Man #699 explains how Doc Ock did the mind swap:

Notice that Peter says that the gold octobot hacked into his brain and rewrote it with Doc Ock's brain patterns, and then did the reverse to Doc Ock. While the issue doesn't actually state it outright, that technically means that Peter is still Peter, only now he literally thinks like Doc Ock and Doc Ock is still Doc Ock only he now literally thinks like Peter, meaning there wasn't a literal swapping of minds. Because brain patterns are not synonymous with a mind.

So yeah, the Superior Spider-Man being a hybrid of Peter Parker and Doc Ock seems like the strongest possibility at this point. Unless Dan Slott pulls a very out of left field swerve like having Paste Pot Pete be the Superior Spider-Man, of course.

Notice how in Amazing Spider-Man #699, when Peter begins rifling through Doc Ock's memories to try and come up with an escape plan, one of the things he makes mention of is "robot duplicates?" Hmm...

Yes, but Dan Slott admitted in an interview with Newsarama that Peter Parker not being the Superior Spider-Man could be interpreted in a number of ways as opposed to being a literal statement. So one interpretation could be that the Superior Spider-Man is not just Peter Parker--he's both Peter Parker and Doc Ock. Think of it like what Peter David did in the Incredible Hulk back in the 1990s, in which The Hulk was Bruce Banner's intellect and memories combined with the personality and memories of the Gray Hulk/Mr. Fixit within the body of the Green Hulk.

Pete did want to bust out the Lizard too once he learned the secret about Connors. 700 is a big issue, they could go back for him later or better yet, the 699.1 preview shows Morbius escaping. Maybe he frees Connors then the Lizard pops up in 700 to help complete the Ock/Pete pairing in 1 body....?

I think Connors will break out either of his own accord, by accident or by Morbius' doing. The idea of Connors' mind in control of the Lizard I think will play beautifully in this and lend itself to some great interactions when this all comes to a head in 700. I think there's gonna be a last minute switch before superior though. I'm not convinced it's gonna be Ock, though I await being proven wrong. I'm speculating that Peter will end up imprinting himself on someone else's brain or will the villains to knock seven shades of spider out of Ock/Spidey and that will leave him free to trade back. Whatever happens i'm excited and am even picking up Avenging as a result.

Well, Wolfman's run to ASM #200 will always be TOPS in my book because of a couple of reasons... one, it was THAT damn good, and secondly, I was 12/13 years old when I read it, so it just blew my young impressionable mind... and after reading YEARS of what I would call mediocre writing in ALL comics... I really appreciate that stuff even more today...

Yet Dan has crafted a WONDERFUL tale building up to ASM #700, and I can honestly say that this is the MOST excited I've been for a Spider-Man centennial issue since ASM #200... and in this new climate of comic book writers & "made for trades" book writing, what Dan has done is pretty damn impressive.

So I guess the answer to your question would be "Yes"...

It really does make a lot of sense for Superior to be O'Hara, almost overwhelmingly so. His eyes are sensitive, his suit has talons and even that exact same foot talon that O'Hara's 2099 suit uses, he has that edgy personality they keep talking about Superior will have, and he even lacks spider-sense which Superior also seems to lack. Only thing is that I don't understand where a time travel story fits in here. It would seem random for O'Hara to come from the future and replace Peter in just on issue. Maybe O'Hara's mind is somehow written into Peter's body? Or maybe even Peter recruits O'Hara from the future to replace him somehow?

I'm not really buying into this O'Hara stuff. We're down to the nitty gritty of this story now. I know 700 is gonna be a huge book but it just seems to me that we're so close to the end now that something like that would be so far out of left.

I'd actually say anything other than that or Peter fusing with Ock, which doesn't really make sense the more I think about it from a storytelling stand point and from what Slott has hinted thus far, would be further out of left field right now.

I'll add to TMOB's excitement for 700. While I'm not as big a fan of 200 (my favorites are probably 300 & 400), I'll agree that Dan has done a bang up job and his run rates among my favorite runs ever on the title.

Totally agree. Dan has been laying the seeds for this for 100 issues. And like his entire run, he carefully weaves subplots through out. O'Hara would be so random (not to mention even born yet).

At the very least, based on the artwork from Superior Spider-Man #6, this seems to suggest that not only do the Avengers realize that the Superior Spider-Man is not Peter Parker, but that Superior Spider-Man won't be Doc Ock pretending to be Peter Parker/Spider-Man either.
