"Commentary by Frank Miller. Creating a Masterpiece: The Dark Knight Returns." And "Experience Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2 as one seamless epic film." That's what hooked me to this Deluxe Edition. Also there's "Cast/Crew Commentaries" and "Making of Featurettes" (except those are probably on the Blu-ray only, folks, not on the Two-Disc DVD set). Even though I already bought Part 1 and Part 2 separately. I enjoy it enough to get this Deluxe Edition.

This coupled with a soundtrack release is a very exciting prospect. I'm actually surprised WB have gone to these lengths. Where the two individual blu-rays big sellers for them?

Looking at those sales figures, unless I'm reading it wrong, they are not very impressive when compared to Public Enemies or Under The Red Hood.

Yeah, exactly. So it's surprising they are releasing this Deluxe Edition. A pleasant surprise.

I guess it didn't sell better compared to the more standard superhero cartoon fare like Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and the Justice League films because those were more family oriented to appeal to kids and for parents to get for their kids with many superheroes. Under the Red Hood was darker, though not as dark and adult oriented as Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One/Catwoman short. Keep in mind that general audiences who don't read comics have never even heard of Dark Knight Returns or Year One or The Killing Joke. There are also narrow minded adults who just blindly assume because it's a cartoon that it's gonna be too kiddie and not for an adult and assume that it's not good quality since it's not released in theaters so they don't give it a chance. Also many people just download the films online nowadays instead of actually buying the DVDs and Blu-rays.

I think the key factor is the more successful ones either offer the team ups we don't see in movies or they are based on a more recent popular comics arc like Under The Red Hood. Couple that with the fact that the art and animation style of Miller's work is probably not as appealing to the younger eye and I think you have your main reasons.

Well... the DC Universe line seems to have dwindled in general, with Justice league: Doom being the only real standout in the last year or two.

I'm actually surprised that WB are doing this for such an average seller, unless they've simply decided to milk it.

After Flashpoint what is the next DC release? I wouldn't be surprised if they went with Hush, The Long Halloween or even more up to date with The Court of Owls.

Right now all we have is the tentative title, Justice League: War. I assume for a Spring 2014 release.

The one rumour that's sprung up about it is that it's possibly based on the recent Geoff Johns/Jim Lee JL relaunch.

Blerg. I wish they'd leave Johns alone for a while.

I've not read that but if it's a hit and current I can see their logic, even though I'd prefer a Batman release.

I wonder how the compilation will turn out; I tried putting the two films together myself and the transition from the ending of Part 1 to the beginning of part 2 was awkward at best. I also wonder if there will be new animation, because compilations such as in anime, from shows into movies, have new animation to patch the story in its new narrative.

Also, is it a commentary by Miller or a documentary? Because it says commentary on the trade ad, but according to World's Finest Only (whom have had connections with WB) this Miller thing is 70 minutes long so it has to be a documentary, not a commentary for this 148 minute movie.

It's depressing that a piece of garbage like Superman-Doomsday sold so well. The only good thing about that dvd was the Documentary about the original comic book event featuring all the original creators.

Well, it was the first of the line. There was novelty and we were excited to see where they could go. People didn't want to pass it up, watch the sales be awful and have WB decide "Eh, you know what? Future movies? Not worth our time."

Though, yeah, to me, the only good thing about it was James Marsters as Lex.

I thought that sales data was for DVD's only, though. Aren't blu-rays excluded, and that's why recent releases look so low?

its because it been out the longest. Have to factor in time.

Warner Premier look at first sales to determine success. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, although sold well over time, its initial sales were not up there compared to Superman/Batman features. Hence why Warner Premier have always opted to go for solo superman, solo batman, joint or Justice League.

The poor initial sales of Wonder Woman and Green Lantern stopped a Flash solo, Batgirl solo, Wonder Woman sequal and also Teen Titans story.

That's what I thought as well.

Could be wrong though, strange how TDKR is easily one of the best, if not the best for me, and it's doing so poorly.

I'll be buying this, along with the dark knight trilogy.
