Loved Emerson, too. His calm voice suited Joker's vegetative type state. Very cold, detached and a matter of fact.

The score is great as well. I'm waiting for Drake's Arkham Origins soundtrack now.

Got it. Loving this!
It's an operating table. And I'm the surgeon. Is a great one!

Some parts remind me of Rambo's theme.

I'm happy they released this awesome soundtrack in some form, but why couldn't they release this as a pressed CD instead of a CDR from Amazon? I don't understand why LLLR couldn't release this. They're allowed to release the score to JL:Flashpoint Paradox but aren't able to release TDKReturns score? I guess it's up WaterTower Music in the end.

Chris Drake seems to have a thing for that. This & Under the Red Hood were digital/CDR, and Arkham Origins will be a Digital download only.

Listening to the score on iTunes. Holy ****. I could believe this was a live-action film score. I hope this guy is getting some attention.

I don't know if this was discussed here or not but do any of you agree that if The Dark Knight Returns was adapted into a Live-Action 80's movie, would it have been any good? Also what changes would you do?

Let's say that the same people behind Robocop, Terminator and Rambo(those kinds of movies) were doing this and it was done in the same vein and feel as those movies(right down to the stunts and effects they did). Oh and Brad Fiedel did the soundtrack/score.

If it was me doing this hypothetical movie, the only change I would make is that Superman(played by Christopher Reeve) was actually mind-controlled the whole time by President Lex Luthor(played by Gene Hackman) who used a variation of Kryptonite to do so. This variation was created by say... Ra's Al Ghul(so Batman can have a reason to be involved). Then in the sequel to this movie we have Superman & Batman beating them in a World's Finest movie.

What do any of you think?

I think it would undermine everything TDKR is about, making it a story among others, instead of being something unique.

Yeah that'd be terrible.

Superman chose to protect the American citizens and try and stop Batman because he believed it to be for the best, he believed in the people, no matter how destructive they would have been to themselves.

I finally watched the film this weekend. I bought the Deluxe version three months ago. I hadn't watched the film and I waited until I got this version. Sadly I hadn't got the time to watch it properly, I have been kinda busy.

Anyways, this film was awesome! Really, it has been a long time since I the last time I read DKR. I forgot how brutal this tale is. The pacing was great, the time flew by. The absence of narration made the visual cues more powerful, the voice acting was great. Peter Weller landed his lines masterfully most of the time. The only time I didn't feel it powerful enough was with the speech with the S.O.B. I finally understood the Gordon's Vietnam speech on a thematic level. When I first read the novel, I didn't quite catch it, I guess my english wasn't very good back then.

Also, as a fan of Person of Interest, I was looking forward to hear Michael Emmerson as the Joker. Boy he was creepy! All of his scenes up to the Carnival where very unsettling. His lines before entering the Dave Endochrine show where truly scary. Alas his final showdown in the ironic Tunnel of Love was so raw, I never thought they could get away with that kind of graphic violence.

I think somehow, the treatment of Superman in the film was less harsh than in the novel. I guess it had to do a lot with Mark Valley's performance. The final battle was thrilling, more fleshed out than in the novel.

The 80's setting, the phenomenal score, even the cinematic sequences felt like something greater. I really need to make time to watch this again soon. This is perhaps the best effort in the DC Animated Movies line.

Really surprised they didn't do a version with the Bruce Wayne voice over.
I skipped the version where they merge two movies into one film but I would have bought it if it had the voice over.

TDKR is the only well respected and influential Batman GN I didn't read. I attempted to do it many times, but the art style always irritated me and I eventually gave up trying. Many months ago, I saw the full length movie (part 1 & 2 combined) on amazon instant and I was floored. It's an amazing story, with beautiful animation, voice acting and music. I just had to own it and eventually bought the Deluxe Edition.

Now, I'm uncertain if I should give the GN another chance. Would it be worth my time at this point?

If you liked the film, you'd like the GN. It's almost 100% the exact same thing, very few differences.

The GN is better because you get inside Batman's head.
