Default What actor was Marvel's best recast?

Yeah, I know this should be a poll but I can't think of everybody. I'm not counting reboots like the Amazing Spider-Man or the Incredible Hulk since they were completely different casts and crews from their previous attempts.. A few recasts that come to mind are Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Leiv Shreiber as Sabertooth and whoever else.

This. Then again they really mishandled him in X1.

Dinklage as Trask will likely be another. Bill Duke was Trask in X3.

Yup!

FOX is really good in casting/recasting.

Does someone like Michael Fassbender count, or is that different because he's playing a younger version of the character? Discounting situations like that, I can't think of that many recasts within the Marvel films. Aaron Stanford? Ellen Page? Zachary Levi?

That doesn't count because there obviously two different characters.

Does Emma Stone count? Probably 10x better than the previous Gwen Stacy.

Ruffalo ftw. Although I thought Schreiber's Creed was absolutely exceptional - so gutted that we probably won't see him in the role again.

That's after a reboot so no it doesn't count.

Sally Field. Aunt May? More like Aunt MILF.

But seriously, Mark Ruffalo all the way, followed by Liev Schreiber.

Ellen Page was good too, but I wouldn't necessarily count her because Kitty was just a cameo in the first two X-Men movies.

I'm curious, did you guys not like Ed Norton's Banner or do you just like Mark Ruffallo's take better?

To me, for a recast to count in this, it can't be a change of a cameo character to a more important role (Ellen Page as Kitty Pride for example) or between movie series' (Sally Field as Aunt May or Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy). Also, this should not include instances like Michael Fassbender as Magneto, because that film took place over 30 years before the original, essentially a prequel.

It has to be a recast within the same universe and timeline.

That being said, I would say the biggest differential from one performance to the next was Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth. Tyler Mane was poor, even in the terrible role that was written for him. Schreiber was the only redeeming quality from XMO:W.

Mark Ruffalo was great as Banner/Hulk, but not much better than Norton. Norton was also very good. Same goes for Terrance Howard/Don Cheadle.

Schreiber all the way.

Why not? Same franchise, same story line, no reboot, same name.
