Finally watched The Amazing Spiderman. Better than I expected, but I wasnt really expecting much either. If the old trilogy hadnt existed, it would've been a helluva lot better, but it just felt too soon and too repetitive. Yeah, imo ultimately pretty pointless unfortunately.

I was surprised at how emotional it was and how good Garfield was with that.

MOS looks like it might be just as emotional, but unfortunately I dont think Cavill will be as good as Garfield was. Of course time will tell, but I dont really get the same emotional vibe from Cavill in what I've seen him in so far. It just seems a little stiff and forced.
I really hope my impression of him will be pulverized next june, because the drama in MOS should be ten times more than in TAS. I'm guessing it WILL be on a more adult and moody level. But Cavill really needs to exel here if MOS aims at moving the audience. It's really important that he does. I really wanna care about this on so many levels. I almost feel sorry for Cavill, because there are so many potential layers to both Clark and Kal-El that needs to be addressed that it's not really fair.

#1, i totally agree about Garfield, he was a great spidey, and alot less whiny than Maguire was.
#2, I personally think Cavil is going to do a great job, i do agree what I've seen him in, he's a bit stiff, but i blame that on just the script material ( because most of the films he has been in have not been very good) I think he's going to step up his game, and really shine in this movie. It also helps that he will have great actors like Amy Adams and Michael Shannon to bounce off on.

I think it's kind of premature to say that Cavil won't be able to deliver in the raw emotions that Garfield has when you're using a complete film that's been released on DVD and Blu-Ray over a film where the only official thing that we've seen from it is a small teaser and a cam recorded quality trailer on Comic Con.

Everyone so far that's worked alongside with Henry and that's spoken about it have all raved over Henry's performance so far.

I think Henry's gonna own, Garfield was fantastic in Spidey but I'm confident
Cavill can match that

So, Guillermo del Toro revealed that the Pacific Rim trailer will debut in December. I guess they'll attach it to The Hobbit. And judging by his statement it's going to show off quite a bit in terms of visual goodies. I just hope WB doesn't drop the ball with the MOS trailer. I'd hate to listen to how awesome Pacific Rim looks and how not awesome Man of Steel looks. It also seems they are getting the best treatment possible with the 3D and GDT sounds very happy with it. Would like to hear a bit from Snyder on the same things...

I have pure faith that Cavill will own this role, he seems to have put a lot of thought and effort into it.

he did research, that's for sure =

With “Red Son,” I thought it was interesting as a different perspective. It was out there and I like that. It was essential to my character research, too. When you’ve got two polar opposite viewpoints of the same character, you will see what the authors consider the important baseline trend. I got to see that and see the different ways he would have developed and that was very useful to me. And because we are retelling the story and we are doing our own reinvention and a modernization for the screen, I get the opportunity to add my own interpretation of how he developed. So that was cool to look at “Red Son” and see what changed, what didn’t change and what that reveals about the baseline of Superman. You can find what is essential to Superman and what is nature vs. nurture by locating that baseline.

I agree that it's premature to claim what Cavil can or can't do with the role. But I think the cast and crew's opinion on Cavil and the film at this point in the production should be taken with a grain of salt. They are, after all, contracted to say only sweet things about the film.

I dont recall the last time the cast and crew for a film raved about an actors performance and then it turned out to be bad. It is premature, with other films like Thor or CA, no one raved about Evans or Hemsworth during filming of those films and they churned out pretty good portrayals.

What im saying is why compliment a performance if its not good, even if theyre under contract technically they dont have to say anything. I feel that were really in for a treat, why think otherwise.

In my opinion it is pointless to compare Garfield with Cavill as they are portraying different characters on screen, that require different type of performance.

I wouldn't even compare Garfield with Tobey McGuire as both of the movies had different directors and different tone and different scripts.

Having said that, speaking purely on basis of acting talent, Garfield is better actor than Cavill.

Garfield is a very gifted actor. It isn't a fair comparison.

I'm going on the record and say that ASM was unneeded and unwanted. I was very frustrated with the story and the characters, to say the least. It hit a lot of the story spots the Raimi film did to better effect. And the fact they turned Parker into a whiny emo kid instead of a likeable nerd was unforgivable. Garfield is a talented guy, but the direction they took his version of the character was awful. I don't care how faithful the movie was to the comics compared to the liberties Raimi took with his Spider-man, but Raimi's felt more realized and likeable.

MOS is a different beast altogether. It's showing me a different side of Superman, and in situations we haven't seen in a live-action Supes movie before. The redesigned suit is gorgeous, and Cavill's approach to the character (from what I could tell from the footage we've seen) captures the essence of the character without being off-putting or emulating another actor's performance.

I'm gonna go on record and say I feel the exact opposite on all of this.

It would be hard for him to emulate another actor since the character itself, in MoS, is completely different than anything before. This isn't Reeve's Superman anymore. The teasers and SDCC footage made that clear. They've created a new, modernized version of Superman grounded in our real world.

I still see people are judging the 1.5 minutes of footage and the teaser for the entirety of the movie.

Meh...

If Garfield is a better actor than Cavill it only speaks poorly of Cavill, because Garfield is not much of an actor.

Garfield is a fantastic actor, imo. Not only was he great in Boy A and Red Riding, but I was lucky enough to see him in Death of a Salesman, and he was remarkable in that.

Definitely looking forward to that, but where's the teaser-trailer? Doesnt this come out a month after MOS and we still havent gotten anything official? Seems odd that we'll get a full trailer by christmas.

On another note, I'm still hoping that we'll get a moment that "Hopefuldreamer" had mentioned about awhile back where we get to see the intensity that can be displayed when a person looks like (to both themselves and the audience) they're about to be killed within an event and that they really convey the sense that all hope is lost, along with the necessary fear presented within their eyes, only for Superman to make that last minute rescue. This would be another great way to further exhibit on how Superman represents hope to people and could be one hell of a visual experience on screen.

Wow that sounds good, obviously we've had a Superman rescue before but nothing as intense as what you've described.
There have been so many great suggestions for moments in this film which would be great from this board alone, hopefully the film makers were way on the same page!
