sadly i don't think they would want to change it, after all the wolverine is suppost to be the iron man of the new start x-men related movies

They're not going to erase the events of TLS; the OT alumni who've been sought out are proof of that, as is the fact that James Mangold's The Wolverine will acknowledge the events of TLS in some capacity.

Not...necessarily. Doesn't really confirm anything.

Singer and casting directors had been trying to "cast" Kitty right from the beginning...maybe that's the one thing they're giving the Rat credit for -- Singer's made no promises to follow Rat's cinematic paper towel in triplicate!

I look forward to soon hearing the names of every other former cast member who has denied hearing from Singer or knowing anything about this picture.

(...except January Jones)

Something is going to change, or it should. That is the point of Days of Future Past--change the past, hope to prevent the future. How they will handle that, I don't know. But, yes, it is conceivable that the events of the previous trilogy will have no bearing on where they go from here.

Marketing speak. It's a way to situate Logan's character and characterization for long-term fans.

This one will be purely a solo adventure for Wolvie...

well, at least all the way up until the last ten minutes or so...

Erasing the events of TLS needs to happen. At least to make the fans happy. Since this movie involves time travel then its obvious that the future has to be changed. Whatever they change in the past could also make sure that Cyclops, Xavier and Jean all survive. Thus paving the way for X4 aka "The REAL X3".

I think that is exactly where this is going. This is like JJ Abrams Star Trek.
The events of Xmen Origins Wolverine, X1-3 and even The Wolverine are all going to be altered. I don't have a single problem with it.

If the series continues with the scale and quality of First Class, its an improvement.

...Hopefully this sets the stage for Age of Apocalypse.

Then in so many years we will have another time travel reboot....to Marvel /Disney.

Exactly. It's so simple. I don't see why people don't get it.

Star Trek '09 as a model, I'm telling you, folks...

The entire premise of this film is to CHANGE THE FUTURE (IE: the past X-men films.) So duh.

Seeing as how they are keeping X3 in canon, it begs the question as to how Xavier can walk in the 70/early 80s when he gets paralyzed in the 60s.

Well, I have theorized that his body switch with his brain dead twin brother in X3 was the second time he had ever done that and that he had done it before (some time before the opening scene of X3) so that he could walk again.

Xavier already came back to life by transferring his mind into his twin brother and Jean can just be resurrected like her character always is.

It would be fantastic if Bishop and Cable ended up in it, even in cameos.

It's obvious that some people don't understand what Abrams and Co. actually did; they didn't 'erase' anything from the previously existing Star Trek canon and continuity; what they did was create a new separate continuity.

This DoFP situation is by no means the same 'kettle of fish'. In order for DoFP to do away with the events of existing movies in the franchise, the past would have to be so drastically altered that the future unfolds from the point of change in a manner that is drastically different from what happened initially, meaning that, as someone else pointed out, the entirety of the existing franchise would be wiped from existence, which isn't likely to happen given that FOX is looking to perpetuate the existing franchise, not reboot it.

Or maybe in that scene, Xavier was wearing a metal leg brace and Magneto was using his powers to make it appear that he can walk because Jean's house didn't have wheelchair access. And the clue there was that Magneto was the one driving.

Maybe.

But then why are they all buddy-buddy?

Yet another thing that needs answering.

I think it's one of those cases where they simply ignore things like that.
