![]() This project seems to be getting more and more promising... very epic in scope. Even with the original X-Men cast returning in smaller roles, I hope they don't overwhelm the presence of the FC cast. |

Xavier getting shot was an accident and Magneto is making amends. Theyre not enemies, they just disagree on humans.

JackMercy: If you erase the events of X1,X2, X3, and The Wolverine from existence, you're basically rebooting the franchise, and that is not what FOX wants to do.

Well well... since Singer's comments do hint on the future events in DoFP taking place after X3, I'm really curious as to how they make it all work. And how, for instance, they'll explain old!Charles being alive again to the general audience who did not stick around to watch that post-credit sequence (not to mention the total lameness of the whole dead twin scenario).

It's not a reboot if the original actors and director is involved. Its a retcon.

^ It's a reboot; it's a 'soft' reboot, but it's still a reboot, and that's not what FOX wants to do with the franchise.

I think he just wants them to erase the events of these two. And seeing how X3 played out, I'm inclined to agree with him.

I don't get how people expect the events of X3 being erased when the whole Phoenix storyline is a direct continuation of X2 and the cure storyline is unlikely to have anything to do with the 60s events.

People really don't get it. Unless TLS and The Wolverine are being ignored and the future events of DoFP take place in the timeframe covered by those films, changing the past will alter the future going forward. Because DoFP is the sequel to First Class, it will likely take place relatively close to the events of that film, meaning that any changes that are made to the future will alter that future from the moment that said changes occur, erasing the events of not only TLS, The Wolverine, and the DoFP future from having ever happened, but also the events of X- Men and X2.

My goodness. This is a classic example of why film studios should have a little respect for their franchises. That way, continuity trainwrecks like this don't end up happening. I'm even confused by how things may or may not unfold.

Things will probably be post X3 till the time travel is introduced then they either... A. Change the future or B. Create a new timeline. Leaving all the problems of the X films in the past and allowing a safe future for the X Men, Cyclops and all.

People are making this much more complicated than it needs to be. You lot should chill and speculate on who or what might be cast as a villain to fight all of these complex "heroes" being cast!

What? FOX doesn't want to reboot the franchise, but perpetuate it (IOW expand and extend it as it currently exists); they are therefore going to preserve the continuity of the franchise as it exists, not discard it (which is what would happen if the events of DoFP changed the future and erased the events of X1, X2, X3, and The Wolverine).

The continuity of the X-films is not fixable at this point. I'll be happy with a solid FC trilogy incorporating the future however they see fit and I'll give them a bit of a pass on continuity issues for now as it's so complicated. After that I would like a total reboot starting from scratch so we can do X-Men the way it should be done on film with events planned out in advance to avoid this situation, top notch directors, writers & cast & a big budget using the best of the (20)10s visual effects.

But the simple explanation is that TLS is the alternate timeline. Seeing as how that movie was not titled X3. And the events of The Wolverine takes place after X2.
