I'd say the same for Angel. He was nothing like his comic character.

I don't think he was forced, he was just a bit over-dramatic.

I didn't think there was much of Angel in X3 to really determine accuracy or not. X3 wasn't much of a accuracy to anything though!

Well, he was only being introduced in the film and had a minimal arc. In a second film with a larger role his persona from the comics could be explored.

I just thought Foster/the writing made him downright dull. Angel is supposed to be charming, beautiful: like a breeze. X3 was monotonous, rigid: like a potatoes.

They could recast if necessary.

He was written as quite angst-ridden in X3, to fit with the idea of the Cure and the conflicts it caused.

But they don't have to keep Foster by any means. Especially if an older version was introduced.

Same with Colossus.

I wonder if Angel and Colossus will ever get an important role in the movies. Colossus' cameo in X2 was nice but story-wise, he hasn't contribute anything yet. The other well-known X-Men guys in the comics contributed something to the movie series. Wolverine is the star of the movies. Cyclops, even though fans aren't exactly happy with the treatment that he got, he was still an important piece to the movies. With Iceman, his personality is not the same compare to the comics but for a supporting role, he was a nice addition. Nightcrawler's White House scene in X2 is still one of the best scenes. Beast was the best addition to X3 and he had a story in FC. And Gambit, even though some people hated that they wasted him in a Wolverine movie, I thought he was the best part of the movie. I hope Bryan Singer can give justice to Angel and Colossus if he plans to create more X-Men movies after DOFP.

we can thank Brett Ratner for Angels role, because Ben Foster is one of the best actors of the trilogy but his role was so poor for such a special character

I think Ben Foster was the wrong actor for Angel though. Warren Worthington is more charismatic, less angsty and should be more like a charming playboy. He should be a bit more like how Oliver Queen has been portrayed in both of his small screen depictions.

You think so? I dunno; I kinda disagree (respectfully of course). I felt that X3's Storm was hands down the MOST accurate portrayal of the character. She was actually fierce and a force to reckon with for once. I do agree that she was annoying at times (i.e. when she was overtalking everyone in Xavier's office as the President announced "The Cure" at Alcatraz), but I sincerely blame that on the writing. Her lines were just super bad...anyone remember her eulogy? Ugh! LOL However, I couldn't have been more happy with her power displays, ESPECIALLY all that spinning s***!

In fact, that battle in Jean Grey's neighborhood/home (leading up to the decimation of Xavier) I believe was the MOST EPIC scene of all X-Men films.

Ratner didn't write the character. And I think the role for something so minimal was done well. His role was the film's commentary on homosexuality. How some parents wish they could just cure their children.

I'm still not happy with how "American" they made Storm out to be. I mean, I understand that the accent was problematic in X1 (honestly, she had so few lines that I think they didn't even bother hiring her an accent coach and Halle just made up the accent LOL), but her lines and dialogue didn't need to be written so... informally. This was not just an X3 problem but a continuation from X2.

Also, in X3, if they wanted to make Storm the leader, why was she always deferring to Logan?? THAT ANNOYED ME THE MOST.

But ultimately he played the role badly. The writing didn't help, but he just wasn't Angel.

With the spread out wings, Angel should be larger than life, and Foster just looked sheepish and sorry to say... not handsome enough.

Physical shallowness is acceptable, encouraged even, only when referring to the female of the species.

They spend about 45 seconds on a character who behaved like an insecure young man with an anxiety disorder. There wasn't even an indication that he would return to become an X-Man.

So my question is, why choose Angel for this role?

More than likely the role was reduced as they went along, just like Psylocke's role and Gambit being cut out altogether.

They wouldn't put Angel in an X-Men leather suit just as some kind of trick on the viewers; it must be that he had a larger part to play at some point.

He probably had a larger role at one point (to some degree, anyway), but the second part of your post I disagree with. They put Cyclops in a leather suit for marketing too. He was killed off the exact same way as was shown on film in one of the earliest drafts.

Yeah, he was going to participate in the final battle, he was going to pick people up and drop them .. kind of lame if you ask me.

To me at least they were just setting him up. The character was being introduced & he'd get more development in a sequel. We never got a sequel so we got his origin and were left hanging. I can't blame that on X3's writing but rather on the studio for not moving forward with a fourth film.

Ben Foster is a GREAT actor...I don't know why he had to be given such a small substanceless role....
Yes I agree with Marv it would have been good as a setup role. Same with Kitty...

I could actually see Zac Efron as Angel. He's gorgeous, and a good actor.
