As much as I love Nolan, I'd be very iffy on him directing Star Wars.

I honestly can't think of another director for this. Brad Bird is a possibility.

Noooo no more franchise films for Nolan. If anything, give him a Bond for god's sake.

Del Toro or Cuaron please.

Although I find it funny and not surprising that second post in someone inevitably brought up Nolan as director, I don't see how he's horrible for sci-fi since he's never done this kind of film before.

I'd personally get three different directors.

Brad Bird for 7, Blomkamp for 8 and Cuaron or Nolan (yes I said it, sue me ) for 9.

I want Nolan with Bond, but not with Star Wars, i don't think Abrams is the man for the job either, i found the scope of his Star Trek way too limited, are they really going to make a sequel trilogy? I hope they get the original actors and don't just do a "the next generation" thing. I would like to see a good director that hasn't been on the spotlight before.

Lucas selling the property could honestly be good for it.

Let's be real guys, this thing grew beyond Lucas a long time ago. And let's also not forget Lucas himself caused some of the greatest damage of all to his OWN franchise. Some of the things we hate the most about Star Wars -- all because of George Lucas.

Not Nolan or del Toro. Too dark, too "complicated" for Star Wars.

Senor Spielbergo, obviously, but he might not want to do it.

Brad Bird is an excellent choice. Also Robert Zemeckis. Kenneth Branagh is an outside choice, but I kind of like the sound of that.

This could mean that we'll get the original version Star Wars A new hope on Blu-Ray.

Bird would be interesting, I think any of these directors could do it well, Nolan, del Toro, Peter Jackson, Alfonso would be amazing as well. I'm sure they will get top class people for it regardless.

I'm more concerned about the writer than the director for episode 7.

Nolan has a great appreciation for the original trilogy and he even interview Lucas at a DGA event. The full video can be found hereScroll down)

Spielberg, Nolan, and del Toro are all terrible choices for Star Wars. Let them do their own stuff.

Spielberg will do great with this, and maybe the one that know the most about the spirit of Star Wars than any other. He was the only director who supported George's vision in the mid-70s. Coppola, Scorsese, De Palma and others did not.
I also believe that Spielberg is the only guy GL would trust with this

Haha, fair enough, but as a trilogy the pathos has to be balanced out with hope, not ambiguity.
