Eh I would not be fully against Spielberg, but form reading about Lincoln, I think he may have lost some of his luster. Though maybe this could re-invigorate him.

Joss Whedon, but he can't do it. The possibilities are endless. This is the kind of dream job you never thought would be possible. Del Toro would be great.

Ya, I want someone with enthusiasm and respect for the franchise (meaning the OT) and has great talent. I bet Disney will get someone like that, I'm sure they know they have a lot of people to lure back to the universe after the PT.

This could be the one project I see that mentioning James Cameron doesn't immediately get my eyes rolling. However, he's dead set on Avatar 2/3 and original projects.
Seconding Brad Bird, del Toro, Cuaron, Blomkamp, Duncan Jones... Or... um, Drew Godard? Someone with the Whedonesque sensibility who's up-and-coming and can give a really fresh take on the franchise. I don't know. With this, I want to dream and dream big, but I could see Disney looking at the Marvel model and getting some inspiration from that.

Nolan is horrible at Sci-Fi? Inception is Sci-Fi. His most favorite film of all time is Blade Runner. So, please...
In my opinion, I don't think Nolan is going to sign exclusively to another franchise. He just spent nearly a decade on Batman and he's attached to a ton of projects as producer (Man of Steel, Untitled Supernatural/Horror Thriller, Transcendence and possibly Interstellar). In addition, I don't think space opera-fantasy is precisely his style, however, to assume Nolan couldn't pull it off is a tad brash. Chris' work has been influential in not only the CBM genre but in other genres as well. He's exactly where Lucas, Spielberg and Cameron were in their young careers. |

He's not horrible at sci-fi but he would be wrong for Star Wars.
Think of more realistic choices. It's not going to be Spielberg, Nolan, Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott, Cameron, etc.

Spielberg is the obvious choice, having already offered to direct the prequel trilogy.

That said, he won't sign up with another franchise anytime soon.

Just some off the top of my head that no one has brought up yet:
-Rian Johnson: Has dabbled in Sci-Fi, could probably do a very Empire-esque take on a Star Wars film. -Vince Gilligan: Even though he's primarily worked in TV, I'd really be down with this, personally. The guy knows how to do good drama and character development/arcs (i.e. -- Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad). -Bryan Singer: Does good drama, character development, very good with spectacle. -Matthew Vaughn: Good with characters, knows how to do a combo of drama/humor.

Vaughn and Singer have projects already, Singer is now doing Days of Future Past. Doubt he would have time. Rian though I love him, I don't think he could take on something that big. Vince I love him as well, but don't think he's suited for it.

Right now if I had to guess who disney would go with would be Gore Verbinski. Somebody they trust.
My choice would be Duncan Jones. The Chris Nolan talk I think is just unrealistic. Nolan is the king, but it just will not happen. I think they should shoot a little higher. |

Sucks that there's no way Andrew Stanton will do one now.
Del Toro, kthanxbi.

Brad Bird should definitely step up to the plate. I wanted him for Justice League, but Episode 7 needs to be in good hands. I trust Bird.

Singer is more of a Trekkie anyway and he's more suited for that style.
Chris Nolan is an unrealistic choice so fanboys have to let that go. Just like when something like this happens they think: Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron. Spielberg is not suited for Star Wars anymore. Look at what he did with Indiana Jones. Time to move on.

Brad Bird still wants to do his San Francisco earthquake movie but who knows when that will happen.
