If Brad Bird gets the gig, he best bring Paula Patton's fine ass along for the ride.
A barely-there gold bikini would just be the cherry on top.

Disney isn't going to take a chance with Episode 7, I will bet money they pull out the big guns and offer it to someone experienced and legendary.
I have almost no doubt they will offer it to Spielberg, Johnston, Zemeckis, Cameron, Jackson, Howard and Burton, probably in that order too. If they can't get one of them then they might consider using Whedon, but I bet he will be unavailable and we could end up with someone like Raimi or Gore Verbinski. Ultimately, I think they will make an offer that can't be refused to Spielberg, Johnston or Zemeckis. |

After Source Code (Personally I loved it and dug it far more than Moon) I'd totally be on board.

Joss Whedon and Brad Bird seem like they'd be crowd favorites.

Joss would not be available, he's doing The Avengers 2. And honestly I don't think Joss would be my pick for Star Wars, he's great with humor, but too much for Star Wars IMO.

Joss is doing Avengers 2 so he won't have time.

Wouldn't bank on Episode 7 being ready for 2015.

Gotta assemble writers, director (There is already a shortlist on the latter btw), settle on story, cast it, build it, shoot it, post production (All three prequels spent over a year in post), etc. 2012 is essentially over and two years is... pretty fast to have a new Star Wars film finished by.
I'd say 2016. That date wasn't definitive. "Targeting" it. Also let's be honest here. As huge as The Avengers was and the sequel will be (though it can't top its box-office domestically), in the eyes of the public the return of Star Wars would overshadow it.

Oh yes, that "mystery sci-fi" flick....maybe it was really Episode 7 this entire time.

The entire Marvel cinematic universe was a chance, there was no absolute guarantee that it would be a success. In many ways it was a learning experience and a gamble.
In the end it paid off and Disney has made back the money they invested in it. Star Wars on the other hand is a proven property with huge profits: $33 billion plus including games, toys, etc. It is theirs to screw up. It has a massive potential based on its history. Star Wars is not a gamble. |

This series can really only get better, so... I'm optimistic.
Long as Lucas doesn't write it. |

Know I'll get some flack, but I really want to see Raimi on this. As long as he doesn't have too much studio pressure, I think he'd do a really nice job.

The existence of that film has pretty much nothing to do with Disney. That project was set in motion long before Disney bought out marvel.

I honestly don't think he'd take the job. He's spoken about being pretty comfortable in admitting that he is only really capable and experienced enough to hand a certain size of film. It was one of the reasons why he took on Source Code, to try out dealing with other people's work within a (pretty small) studio.
The jump from Source Code at Summit to STAR WARS at Disney would be insanely drastic. |
