He did but it was only one scene.

The rest of the time, the commanding presence was not so evident!

The 'You're a dick' scene and Jean's scathing (and poorly acted) look of disdain towards Scott annoys me to death every time I see it.

Cyclops never convinced me as a leader at all in the original movies. It didn't help that he was totally out-alphaed by Wolverine, but James Marsden just doesn't have the leader presence to me, period.

Yeah, there was very little of Cyclops leading in X1 and it isnt handled that well. He doesnt come off as someone who is supposed to be in charge at all to me.

if he had different lines and Singer had tried to have a real leader, James could have pulled it off perfectly.

He did what the director told to do and what his lines were. As all the actors.

Its not always about how good an actor/actress is, is how the DIRECTOR works with the actor.

to be fair the audience is always gonna like wolverine more no matter how they handled Cyclops cap may of been giving orders but tony still came out looking better in the end

audiences are gonna always prefer the bad boy

He should still do his job instead of being tossed to the side. Hes a big reason why the team should work. I never got what he contributed to the team in X1 or 2 besides just being there.

yes, thats why screenplay and director and really important.

If they dont care about the character, the character wont shine ever.

I agree that the way a character comes off depends on a director a lot, but it's also true that all actors have some kind of limitation and can't play all kinds of roles equally well. I liked Marsden a lot in Hairspray and Enchanted, I think he really shines in lighter comedic roles and I thought he was a highlight in Singer's otherwise forgettable Superman movie. But a role that requires to be strong and assertive and leader-like just doesn't suit him as well.

I did think that they tried to set up some kind of rivalry between Wolverine and Cyclops in X1 but to me it just didn't work because the contest is so obviously one-sided.

Definitely, I have no problem with Marsden in the role. Just wished they gave him something to do.

If given the right material and direction I think Marsden could be a great Cyke. Hell, even with the little he had to work with in the original trilogy I still liked him.

We should get a lot more over the next six months before filming starts, as casting/crew info is announced/reported/leaked.

Yes, I look forward to casting speculation. Especially the rumored castings that get picked up by every site.

For most of the crew, we can just keep our eyes on the IMDB page.

Are we thinking this movie will be mostly filmed in Hollywood (or at least North America) this time, after Singer's announcement as the new director? Are mostly the same crew coming back, who, from the extra features seem to be from across the pond? Or are we thinking Singer will replace them with his own crew, given that they won't be filming for 5 months?

Just when I thought that it'd only be a few more months before I hear casting news. Now I have to wait a few more more months!
