Maybe, with some spin offs. But I still say I'm against it. There is synth and non-traditional music (to Star Wars) with 95% of music out there for films. To me Star Wars is still unique and sadly out of the box in today's music world. But I just prefer it this way. I've listened to these scores non-stop for almost 25 years, and I think to this day it's still superb.

Who here wants an Indiana Jones film scored with synths?

I thought so.

This whole talk about bands in film started because I made a joke about Joseph Kosinski hiring unknown inexperienced bands/dj's to score his sci-fi blockbusters. I don't think too many people here think any existing lucasfilm project should be scored with modern electronic music. Maybe spinoffs down the line, but not any that are based on a continuation of previous storylines or characters.

Daft Punk's score for Tron: Legacy was fantastic. I also love M83, so I'm stoked to see what score Kosinski can get out of him/them. And let's hope Oblivion is a better film than Tron: Legacy on top of that.

I hope Williams does the trilogy & then retires after Episode 9. It would be sort of fitting that he ends with the series that made him famous.

Yes, I know he did the score for Jaws, but the score to Star Wars is definitely better & more iconic. I'm not dissing the score to Jaws though.

I think we all hope, but I just highly doubt he will. Maybe as a consultant for Episode VII. But he is getting up there, and did say the PT took a lot of energy for him, and that was 10 years ago. I think maybe giant epic scores may just take it out of him.

I think it's best to expect realistically he won't do it. Michael will do him justice, I heard his stuff on Star Tours is amazing.

The actual Star tours music from the ride is just re-edits of the original recordings. Giacchino did the music for the entrance to the ride, the waiting area, the travel log videos and some advertising, but when people think of star tours music that is not what they are usually referring to. A lot of people think he wrote the most epic music for the ride based on William's themes, but actually most of the music accompanying the actual ride is just the original John Williams LSO recordings chopped up in a different way.

OF course, but the stuff he did I heard was amazing. The point is, the man will know what to do, more then any other musician out there IMO.

Just as I was getting used to the thought of a Non-JW SW score.

I can see him working on a few new themes but as the composer for all of the 3 movies? I can't see it.

Oh ya if he wants to be a part of it, at least in consulting or Episode VII I don't think there would be a fan that would be upset with that at all. If John is up to it, hell ya John go for it!

I would be on board with a Williams-Giacchino collaboration.

I don't think JW would be interested in doing a full on Collaboration and to me it sounded like he was saying he is preparing his creative process for another film on his own. A JW/Giacchino (or anyone else really) collaboration would probably be more work and stress for Williams than if he composes the entire score. Also, Giacchino and JW's actual composing styles are very different. I really can't see that being something he would make time for. He still works all the time on films/concert music and conducting. Also, he probably wouldn't have said anything at all if he was just referring to Giacchino using his themes.

I'd rather see JW do as many films as he can on his own and then pass the torch when necessary. It's not that time yet!

I'm really hoping we do end up with John Williams doing the score. This trilogy needs to be a finely tuned blend of old and new.

We are already pretty much having Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams and Ewan McGregor pretty much saying that they'll do it again, why not have John back as his last stint before retirement?

If John Williams were to not return for this, I'm sure they'll get someone who will pretty much keep it John Williams-esque without radically changing anything(assuming they'll make new music). You'd think that the people working on this also like Star Wars enough not to radically change it. I mean have you heard this version of Binary Sunset from SWTOR?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtVqLwroDio

On another note, I hope they do keep Duel of the Fates, the only good music from the Phantom Menace for the big lightsaber fight

The only good music from TPM? I highly disagree.

If we don't get Williams, we get Giacchino. Set in stone.

or Alan Silvestri, I loved his score for The Avengers and Back To The Future

Whenever I hear Duel of the Fates in Star Wars you know you have a good feeling about the lightsaber fight and is my favourite from the movie
