I enjoyed him as much as anyone, but when you say 'serious', at what point did he have the chance to show the serious side of JJ in any of those films? He got the funny side down, but I can't say anything about serious as I didn't see anything like that.

IMO, most of the serious stuff was still comical. I would love to have seen him be given the chance in a more serious spidey film, like TASM, but now it wont happen, and IMO shouldn't.

Although it will never happen I would love to see Daniel Day Lewis as Norman

JK Simmons had the look and the gruff sense of humor down perfectly but really and truly, that is all. It is more than possible for them to find someone else that can do equally as good of a job and show the more serious side of Jameson.

Agreed. I thought the belt looked pretty good in the previews of the game but once I was able to play it, I found the belt was rather ugly or out of place and used the default suit without it. They can make a belt for the movie suit but hopefully it goes along with the sleek, slim look of the new design.

If they need to change the actor for the sake of being new, they should aswell change the personality of Jameson aswell, from a gruff, selfish guy to someone more serious,Maybe give Daily Bugle more freedom and roles in the movie than simple comic relief

Because if they go for the same personality and with a different actor, there is high chance that they wont better Simmons performance and come across as poor man's Jameson

Well of course they need to create a different personality for Jameson. They've done this already with Peter, the main character, so I don't know why they wouldn't with JJJ.

I think it would be unique for the franchise to bring back Simmons in the role of Jonah. Now only would it be homage to the Raimi films, it would lend us, the fans, a chance to see one of the greatly cast actor play the role in a much different tone, a more serious tone....something I want to see Simmons do at times as JJJ.

It wouldn't be looked as a homage though.

Marlon Brando being shown in Superman Returns is a homage. Using Simmons in a new reboot would be like Nolan using anyone that was in Burton's/Schumacher's series.

It just wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.
Everything is different, everything is new... except for Peter's boss.
It'd be unnecessary fan service that I think would, in the end, fail, because as much as we all loved JK Simmons in the role I doubt there's a majority of us who want to see him reprise that role in this new franchise.

I simply disagree, he can be written differently, Simmons can convey the role differently, and the overall tone by Webb, will help contribute to the fans accepting his smooth transition into the new franchise. And it would be a homage, one does not have to be dead or apart of a franchise 20-30 years ago.

Maybe make him like he is currently in Ultimate Spider-Man post Peter's death

Casino Royale was a reboot still using Dame Judi's M from Brosnan's tenure.

To be a wise-ass, Schumacher did use Burton's Alfred

He also used Pat Hingle as Gordon, thats because its a loose sequel not a reboot.

Haha! Bryan Cranston is a great actor... but I don't see him as a Jonah Jameson. But if JJ actually makes an appearance in the sequel and if he is to be replaced then I'll be fine if the choice for him is the right one.

I wouldn't really call them loose sequels. There were pretty much straightforward sequels and that's why I said it like 'Burton's/Schumacher's' because these films are pretty much in one continuity.

I'm sure a lot of people would love to see Cranston as JJJ though.

Count me in.

Get someone who isn't a clown and there for comedic relief, let's explore J.J's son and his life, why he hates Spider-Man for a valid reason, make him more real and sensible than a loudmouth with a cigar.

Remove the JK Simons persona into something more, Bryan is perfect.
