Just because Venezuela is cool with Iran and Cuba. I guess the Bush Aministration is afraid these three countries will take over the world!

Well saying a country can't import firearms is basically the same as saying a country can't have firearms.

But on the plus side the sale of arms to "democratic" states like Saudi Arabia will contiue.

Venezuela, democratic my ass. Chavez is just like Hitler, he says the things that the people want to hear and in return the people love him. And just like Hitler, he is democratically becomming a dictator. At least Saudi Arabia doesn't claim that it is a democracy.

How about those obviously rigged elections last year where Chavez supporters basically won nearly every seat in the legislature

Or his upcomming election where he will obviously win.

The things Chavez says are nothing more than propaganda/nationalism to the Venezuelan people over their resentment towards the United States.

The things Chavez says are nothing more than propaganda/nationalism to the Venezuelan people over their resentment towards the United States.

I don't pay attention to Venezuelan elections because...I don't live in Venezuela, nor am I a citizen there.

The way it looks to me is that the Administration is making a big deal about Venezuela because Chavez doesn't support Bush and he has the audacity to say it.

Until the threats are carried out, I don't place importance on them

No, it's because Chavez wants to end all forms of American influence in South America and is establishing close ties to nations that are enemies of the United States: Syria, Cuba, and Iran.

Chavez's rants are nothing but pointless babble.

I watched this interesting documentary titled "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" in which it showed an Anti-Chavez military coup occuring while Scottish (i think) documentary filmmakers were in the embassy working on a doc about Chavez. Then it followed the creation of the new government and then the counter-coup to reinstate Chavez that happened like one day later. It was really interesting.

The build-up to the coup was what intrigued me so much, in that the Venezualan media covered only the Anti-Chavez sentiments and downplayed the support Chavez has with many of his people. Most notably in the covering of Pro-Chavez and Anti-Chavez citizens marching and meeting then being provoked by gunfire that occured away from both groups. The media showed what seemed like the Pro-Chavez citizens firing on the Anti-Chavez marchers, yet, when the documentary crew showed the full scope, neither groups of citizens were shooting at one another, and were actually firing in the direction where the gunfire originated from (which the crew hinted to their belief as being military snipers trying to provoke bloodshed in order to justify their planned coup)


I know most documentaries are biased in some form or another, and I'm not saying that this one was not, but for an outsider who knows little about current Venezualan government, it was very interesting.

I'm not a fan of eating the same burger in Memphis, Chicago, New York, Tokyo, London, Paris, Sydney, Beijing, Seoul, Mexico City, Rio, Sao Paulo, etc. etc. etc.

When I go to Chicago, I want to eat their cuisine. Same with New York and the other places I listed

Why should everyone eat the same food everywhere in the world? What happened to experiencing new tastes instead of letting your tounge get bored?

I never said anything about Venezuela, did I? Pay attention! I was pointing out a double standard standard in US policy they always ban arms sale to dictatorships they don't like and then gleely contiue selling arms to disctatorships they do like.

This is another proof that America should care less about other countries

I just hope they don't pull another Pinnochet, another Al-Qaeda or another Germany post WWI(Which the US had nothing to do in it, but you get the point)
