Joshua Jackson certainly has the acting chops. Watching him on Fringe, I would say he's a bit two round in the face to look quite right, but that is a problem that is potentially solvable ( or supercedable, if he's sufficiently good ).

He's never really done any working out for Fringe so I'd say he would need to bulk up and lose a little body fat for a role like Batman (not that he's fat! ..... just that he would need to look a bit more lean/cut). But I think overall he has a good look for the role; he's slightly taller than Bale but just as serious looking.

He was one of the people looked at for Batman, if I am not mistaken. Yeah, he'd be alright.

Good looking.

I think a gay guy playing Batman actually brings a very interesting perspective into the character.

He's also got the right kind of experience under his belt with White Collar.

Is his voice fitting?

I remember it being sort of thin.

That's why they're called actors, bro.

...you know, that might be the reason why, when people mention him for the role, he just doesn't click with me. But who knows?

I could see Joshua Jackson or Matt Bomer as Batman. But I still stick to Lee Pace, Alex O'Loughlin, and Sam Witwer.

Can't say I've ever really noticed anything out of place with his voice. He would likely deepen it somehow for Batman anyway, so if his Bruce Wayne sounds different it might be an advantage.

There is the whole aspect of keeping "double" or "secret" identities and the struggle to deal with that. Bommer as one of the few openly gay actors who is able to get steady work cast as often straight characters could probably relate to that aspect.

Also, Batman, honestly, has pretty weird relationships with women. In a lot of ways very much like gay guys. He is with women to keep appearances, because he really doesn't care about them, for him it's all about the mission, and if the world didn't expect him to date women in all honesty I'm not sure he would.

Not to mention all the pseudo hints and suggestions over the years that the whole Batman/Robin relationship has a very homoerotic overtone to it.

Wasn't Joshua Jackson part of the shortlist before Bale was cast? At the time, I thought god no, but he impressed me most of the time on Fringe. I have definitely warmed up to him while still no totally enthused.

Yeah he was shortlisted, but probably too fresh-faced and young at the time, which was the same problem Cavill had when he was also considered for an earlier Superman role. Jackson is only 34 now.

Really? I know there are some silly panels people point to from like the 40s and 50s, maybe, but is there anything in the last 30-40 years really suggesting this at all? If anything, Batman and Robin, for all of my life, have been portrayed as father/son or brothers, even.

Yeah, for real - I'm not talking about the humour cartoon panels or the like. There's actually been a couple of interesting studies and articles I've read on the subject, discussing some of the key points in more recent incarnations of the Batman/Robin duo - use of PVC in the Schumacher films, the heavy reliance on male relationships in Batman history, the campy nature of the 60s show, etc. Much of it is hypothetical of course, but it's an interesting perspective on the subject. You can look at it in a similar way to the Alien films, where you can simply take the subject for what it presents itself as (sci-fi) but also find a huge amount of sexual allegories.

This one in particular gives a good overview

Joshua Jackson sucks. He's one of the few actors suggested that would make me NOT see a Batman movie. I still can't fathom how he (apparently) made the shortlist for Batman Begins. The guy can't play anything but his d**khead character from Dawson's Creek. I know people love Fringe for some reason but from what I've seen of him there, he's just Pacey with a 5 o'clock shadow.

Not a fan then?

I'm quite surprised by that comment, but each to their own. Joshua Jackson has pretty much had very positive response across the board to his performances in Fringe, and also been nominated for various awards (and won a few). I've seen some bad acting over the years but he's not someone I would ever have placed in that category.

Joshua will always have more of a streamlined skinny look to him I think. He'd probably be more Flash suited or someone whose more of a quick light on his feet character.

i still would love to have a much older/experienced Batman for the reboot. someone like Karl Urban or Jon Hamm in the role would be pretty awesome. but since WB is going for a Justice League team up, then they need to get someone obviously much younger (late 20s/early 30s). these are my picks:

1 - Colin O'Donogue
2 - Richard Madden
3 - Matt Bomer
