So what does the original design tell us?

She has less cleavage to show
She has black bondage looking bracelets
A thigh high flimsy skirt.
Stiletto heels...
comparing to now

It is the same with the skirt in the Lynda Carter tv pilot, yes, it looks sexier when she is just in the short shorts, but the skirt just doesn't look as cool, it also makes her look too dainty.
With the short shorts she looks more like a martial artist or whatever, ready for action, ready to kick face without her skirt getting caught in an escalator's revolving door.

The detail around the torso is too busy and the color scheme is too heavy. If it's armor they want to go for then make it armor. Change the bracelets to gauntlets or leather gloves so she can be convincing pugilist.

Yes, sexual tension, some guys lose their hats in the street if they see anything above the knee on a lady.

Nah, it's the entire thread, perhaps with certain individuals, not you mind, in particular.

I'd say skimpy clothing is more disrespectful towards the male audience, than the towards females..
Anyways, the simple fact that you make the bathing suit connection is enough to indicate that the classic costume is a no-go for a, even slightly, serious live action film

I did not make the comment, and am kind of jumping in here when you are replying to someone else, but...now you mention it, it's funny to think that Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman changed into an outfit that completely covered her from head to toe when she went swimming, lol.

But, I think the point is, that a 'bathing suit' is in fact sportswear, that is generally not considered disrespectful to women, and in actual fact, you'd have to go back to Victorian times or thereabouts to find an era where this attitude prevailed, where women were dressed in clothe-like swimming outfits that looked like they would hinder their enjoyment of swimming.

So, superheroes wear form fitting outfits so they are unemcumbered during their martial arts...and female superheroes sometimes wear form fitting revealing outfits, which are reflective of the manner women chose to dress when they feel like celebrating their form, much as superhero imagery celebrates the human form.
So, when you take all that in, it doesn't sound inappropriate for this medium.

You're missing the point, a serious 21st century live action character don't dress like this.

And that doesn't really have anything about appropriateness or sexism. It's about taking a character seriously.

If someone was as tough as WW in real life, and I saw her take charge of a situation with her powers in an outfit that showed off her shoulders, arms and legs, I would take her seriously. But remember, this is fantasy, not reality, artistic licence is always taken with these kinds of things, so that certain types of imagery can be effective. As I said, superheroes are about celebrating the human form when it comes to the visuals, the best of the best.
The suit needs to be updated, sure, but if her shoulders, arms and legs are showing, I do not see the problem, her chest should not look like it is about to fall out of the costume though, I agree there, the Lynda Carter outfit is a bit like that I will give you.

The military would be after her, in a real-life world. But as you said, this is "fantasy".

i prefer battle skirt you also need the perfect actress where she wont look silly in a revealing outfit

lynn collins pulled it off in JC where she was in revealing clothes but came across sexy and strong but not ****ty or sexualized

Yeah, the military would be after her to try and slap some clothes on her, so she could be more 'realistic' onscreen, haha.

Haha, no. They would think of her as a threat to the country.
Isn't MOS dealing with the same?

Well, I have not seen that film, but I struggle to imagine watching a woman in revealing clothing who was not exuding some kind of sexuality, same with men.
The movie was set on Mars, and the male lead was also dressed in revealing clothing, so I don't know if that was about a temperature thing or what(I have only visited Mars in my head on a recall trip), so maybe that made you feel like she was dressing like that for practical sunbathing reasons, so the sexuality thing was more subdued in your mind.

But I do think you are going into dodgy areas when you say 'this actress looks ****ty and this one does not(in revealing clothing)', because you may well be bringing some of your personal prejudices to bear against the actress, where someone else would not see them like that. For instance, if you felt they were not that great of an actress, and traded on their looks, perhaps you would think they were ****ty looking in that outfit, which is very unfair and highly insulting. Someone else made that kind of dodgy comment earlier about an actress, which I found outrageously insulting to women in general. Because if you are applying those standards to judgement to one, who's to say who you arn't applying it generally a lot of the time?

@Airwings, yes, that seems to be a plotpoint of the new movie.

^Palicki was bad, really bad... and she looks too much "porn".
With Collins, everything were handled in a better way. She appears to be what a live action WW should be. Nobody can claim otherwise.

Just watched Haywire. Carano's nowhere near as bad as some claim. In fact, she's not even bad.

lol. i watched a bit of it yesterday. she's got decent instincts as an actor, the only thing that worried me were the rumors of the voice over; I'm not sure how prominent that is or if its even true and to what extent, but she was good for her first go around.

i think some people are too narrow minded to think that an athlete could actual go from a sport to cinema. there's clearly some inherit bias there.
