I'm betting it'll be that Mars was capable of supporting life 35 billion years ago, which of course means absolutely nothing practically, but always seems to give scientists massive hardons, as if any intelligent person didn't already know that it's mathematically impossible for there not to be other life sustaining planets in the universe.

This is what I imagine the announcement will be. Nothing too mind-boggling or anything that blow people away.

On the contrary, this would be a big win for science. It would prove that life isnt exclusive to earth and further prove creationists and bible thumpers are wrong.

They found pieces of the statue of liberty and realized that Mars was Earth all along.

Not too get this trhead off-topic too much, but I've always been confused why people think that the existence of ET life would be against anybody's theology.
ETI maybe........but we'd probably be talking about microscopic life here......

They found Jimmy Hoffa with a little note pinned to him saying: "It's a long story."

It isnt unless you belive in sola scriptura like fundamentalists. The bible is the final and only word. God didnt mention creating other life so he must not have. Least that is their reasoning. Another argument ive heard countless times is that adams original sin effected all of creation so christ would have had to die for all life in the universe and because christ made no mention of this then there must be no other life in the universe. Its all BS logic predicated around a book that predates science.

Now what would be really fascinating is if life on Mars predates life on earth. That would bring up some interesting questions. Not sure if there is any way to prove that without actually going to mars and doing extensive studies which is probably a century off.

How could we tell it's Shoggoth DNA? Do we have some samples lying around? Don't be ridiculous.

If anything it's Cthulhu DNA.

I reckon it'll be something like we discovered carbon molecules or something like that.

Still, it's fun to dream. Imagine if it was a civilisation which had emigrated away millenia ago?

TO EARTH!

Nah, they'd cover that up.

So you found a small martian city hmm? Well it's be a shame if you took a 'vacation' and never came back while reporting this, wouldn't it?
