Default Captain America NOW! by Remender/JR Jr.

I'm a big fan of Romita Jr's work.......

But lately his pencils seem a litttle sketchy.....could it be the inker??

And why does Rogers look as skinny as a pencil in his suit and bigger as in his Cap garb???

And since when did Cap become able to take that kind of punishment?? Are you kidding me??

Dont wanna spoil it for those that have not read it.

I just finished the issue and came here to post. I can count the number of issues of Brubaker's run that I read on one hand, so I'm def a new Cap reader. That being said, I freaking loved this issue. This absolutely has me hooked. I loved Romita's pencils, the colors, the sci-fi slant, everything.

My favorite thing about the issue: the Mogwai password for the train.

I'm okay with how this issue went but it's definitely a whole different tone and style from Brubaker's series. It's going to take me a little bit to adjust to the major shift in tone and artwork.

A little off-topic, but did any of the comic series that CA is a part of explain his change from his traditional suit to the newer, streamlined uniform? If so, which one and what's the explanation? I'm a little behind in reading and haven't read much of the stuff post-AvX.

I've not seen a story explaining this change in uniform....

Oh....I enjoyed it too.......Just amazed that Cap could take that to his chest and live.

Any reason why???

The most obvious is that they are trying to turn their book universe into their "movie" universe.....

I loved the Sci-Fi aspect, Rick Remender doesn't dissapoint. The opening with Steve's parents and the "You always stand up" line was my favorite part! Also the colors were beautiful.

Yeah, when folks said Dean White was a great colorist, they weren't kidding. He helped JRJR's art a lot. He still draws weird kids though...

It hasn't been explained for Cap, Thor, and most others. I assume the reason is basically just that the characters wanted to wear new clothes. Except Iron Man; I think his new armor was explained in the first NOW issue of his series. Some of the costumes do have movie overtones, but others don't. Thor and Iron Man, for example, have new costumes that actually look LESS like their movie counterparts' costumes, and the Hulk is sporting full armor in his new SHIELD gig while the movies still fully embrace the ripped pants look. Hell, even Black Fury is in Cap's cast-off "Super-Soldier" outfit instead of the slick, all-black leather look Sam Jackson sported in Avengers. So from an in-universe perspective: new clothes. From an out-of-universe perspective: Marvel probably wanted new designs to signify that this is a new era in their comics.

Shouldn't this thread just be re-named to the official Captain America/Remender/JRJR thread?

I guess. I was gonna look for the other thread to merge them, but why not start fresh? Boom! So it shall be.

Might as well start fresh. Remender's Cap is radically different from Brubaker's.

Looks that way. I'm glad Arnim Zola gets to take center stage for once. Brubaker used him pretty much exclusively as the Skull's lackey, but I've always found him to be a much more fun villain on his own (or with Doughboy ).

I remember the Thor/Doughboy slug-fest from years back. Too bad it was the Masterson Thor and not the regular one....imagine all the dialogue possibilities.

I loved the first issue, how Steve learned to always stand up from his mom. Very touching

Went into my local Hastings, one of two places to by comics in my town and found this brilliant variant for Cap #1. Have yet to read it, but this cover is up there with Cassady's vol. 4 cover art.

Been reading Remender's Cap and its been pretty good so far.

I liked Cap burning his old memorabilia in the latest issue.

This week's issue was pretty damn good. I've enjoyed the series so far. I'm a major Cap fan, so I'll read pretty much anything put in front of me but I get why the initial storyline has left the book with little fanfare. JRJR is polarizing enough these days and the sci-fi/Mad Max type first arc is so much unlike anything ever Cap related, I get why people didn't read it.

I highly recommend the first story in trades. It was very Planet Hulk meets Captain America. Cap was lost for over a decade in another dimension and had to raise a child of Zola like it was his own. It was very solid work from Rick Remender.

As for this week's issue. I'm 100% convinced that Sharon isn't dead. I'm sure at some point Remender is going to have Ian come over to the 616 dimension and bring Sharon with him. I'm interested in where Remender is going with the Cap/Jet and Cap/Maria Hill stuff. I have no problem with Nuke as a character, so I'm looking forward to him next issue.

Cool seeing Banner and Pym operating on Steve as well. I wish there was more interaction between those two in the comics.

Every time I see surgery in a superhero comic, I miss Don Blake a little more. Kind of sucks that no one's really been able to make him work since the Lee/Kirby era.

I was about ready to drop this series after all the stuff with Ian and Sharon, but I have to admit, Cap and Jet's developing bond is right along the lines of what I'd hoped to see with Cap and Ian after Cap made it back to Earth. Jet's actually a bit more interesting than Ian too.

Is it just me or does Nuke look like Brock Lesnar?

I get Mandarin/Ras Al Ghul vibes from Iron Nail
