True.

Honestly, Superman himself isn't that popular a character anymore.

Tell that to the merchandising wing of WB. They would disagree with you.

Man of Steel has to rock people's socks off. Superman is in worse shape than Batman was after B & R IMO.

I'd have to see the statistics that back up that claim, SpideyFan866...

No, it isn't. Most of the casting for MOS people like or love (the only casting fans are split over is Amy Adams), we've have several crystal clear shots of the suit on set, and the shoot has been trouble-free for the most part.

Frankly, the only thing similar is the marketing strategy. There's a difference between filmmakers wanting to keep the movie under lock and key until release date or just a marketing blitz where almost all the plot points are revealed.

Which website recently did the superhero contest where there was a bracket system and people voted on each superhero? There were something like 30+ characters that were voted on and Superman and Batman were in the final championship round and Batman barely beat out Superman.

Are you forgetting the casting of Laurence Fishburne as Perry? That had a split reaction too. Also, the use of Zod again split fans too.

TASM had several crystal clear shots of the suit on set too and just as many blurry ones as MOS. And who said anything about a troubled shoot? Neither film had a troubled shoot, I'm just saying both caused alot of fan reaction.

True, but there is a middle ground and neither so far, MOS hasn't found it.

ASM definitely didn't find it. They didn't market in the front end and it caused them to release waay to much in the back end.

Hopefully MOS doesn't do the same.

Here's the final bracket. Batman edged out Superman 56% to 44%. And Superman beat out Spider-man in the semi-finals.

Also, just because people consider him on of the greatest superheros, doesn't mean he's the most popular.

Big difference.

Ah, someone's upset that his superhero is less popular.

Superman is still a very, very popular superhero. I've yet to see any proof to the contrary. He consistently ranks up with Batman and Spider-Man in polls that I see, and I have a good number of friends who prefer Superman above all others (we have lighthearted debates about it all the time when I see them, as Batman is my personal favorite).

Popularity and interest are too different things though. Superman may be less popular, but have people lost interest in the character? I don't think so.

You have a point. But the leading man and his on-screen families... didn't hear much complaining about casting Henry Cavill and nabbing Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane and Ayelet Zurer to play his parents.

There's just something about MOS and the way it's been going has me confident in how it'll shape up.

But with ASM, I thought it was completely unnecessary from the get-go -- and all the problems SM-3 had could've been rectified by a smaller, story-driven sequel. I tried to keep an open mind with the fresh casting and the 'more faithful to the comic book' approach for ASM. But I was massively let down by the final film and almost everything about it.

I don't agree. People say a sequel to SM3 couldve have rectified things but a sequel wouldve been really hard to do considering that all of storylines for the series (the MJ/Peter relationship, Ben's Killer, the Goblin story) has been wrapped up in SM3.

A sequel would've been an entirely new direction but severely limited themselves by including all of Spidey's big name villains in the first 3. I.E. Goblin, Ock, Venom.

There really wasn't much else that could be done.

Warner Brothers must really want to get the ball rolling on awareness for MOS. Jamie mentions that it will get a TV spot in next year's Super Bowl.

I'm flashing back to Super Bowl 2005, and being surprised by a TV spot for Batman Begins.

Spider-Man isn't more popular than Superman among comic book fans but among the general public, Spider-Man definitely is more popular.

I guess this is all trashtalk until we see the box-office next year and compare it with what happened with spidey´s last movie, right?
