"Jellyfish" is easily the most Zimmerlike cue he's ever written. Not bad, as that track is one of my favorites on the cd.

I do wish the missing cues would show up, namely "Temple".

Two more nods:

The palm printer reader was taken from Licence To Kill.

Silva's fate was taken from my favorite Roger Moore film.

What are you talking about? Bond wasn't tortured in Skyfall.
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Being forced to try to kill Severine in name of cruel game of sport I would consider so. Also, being responsible for the deaths of two women Bond cared about is always going to bug him to some degree.

That's why Silva is BOSS and surpasses Trevelyan.

You know I re-watched DAD just recently after not seeing it for quite some time (as i had little motivation to) and i was surprised to remember that for the first 1/3rd or half of the movie maybe it was actually pretty good.
To make the entire redeemable, I would've removed:

- Icarus (Completely pointless to re-use a weapon satelite AGAIN. We saw that in Goldeneye!)

- Jinx (I blame Halle Berry as she let that Oscar go to her head. Miranda Frost should've been the Bond girl as originally intended since she was going to play Gala Brand, Bond's love interest, from the Moonraker novel.)

- Gene Therapy (The twist of Moon being Graves was the last straw for me. I can accept DAD for all its flaw, but for me to accept that a Korean officer would go through all that to become a British millionaire was complete crap. Graves should've been his own villain. So convoluted. Beyond stupid.)

Ironically, Craig's version of Die Another Day in Goldeneye Legends was better than the actual film, lol.

was there any explanation for why "skyfall" by adele isn't on the soundtrack ?
Most likely, a rights issue. Same reason why "You Know My Name" was missing from the Casino Royale soundtrack.

RE: Melina Havelock

Watched the scuba tank scene in question and I'm just going to go to the conclusion that the tank was getting heavy so she took it off to swim comfortably. Yeah, her boat was right there so you could say she was being lazy too.

He only "loved" Severine in the physical sense. Nothing about their relationship struck me as being all that meaningful for Bond, she was a means to an end for him. Sure he wouldn't want to kill her but then again that's just because he's not a sociopath.

Skyfall was a well-made James Bond interpretation, with great references to 50 years of Bond, brilliant opening titles, great villain and entertaining action. The theme song by Adele, was very mediocre and lacking oomph. Giving Bond an orphan back-story was entirely unneccesary, as all of you know, Skyfall has many similarities to Nolan's Batman trilogy. Aside from the villain and few other things, it's not very Bondian, dry humor, lacking gadgets, grim & gritty tone etc. I've just started watching the Bond series from the beginning, though I saw all the Brosnan and Craig entries, liked Casino Royale quite a bit. So far, watched four films, I think the Connery films are the best, even Dr. No feels Bondian although it has no gadgets and Bond staples. Well, that's a conversation for another thread.

Why does everyone criticize the underwater sequences in Thunderball for dragging the pace down, especially film critic James Berardinelli. The underwater sequences were breathtaking and ahead-of-it's time, otherwise the film was fast-paced, although the first 2-hours long.

Umm...that's something that's been a part of the bond mythos since the Connery movies. So that's not really a ew development.

I was referring to your implication that the Bond/orphan thing was a result of the Nolan Bat trilogy. Bond being an orphan has been part of the mythos for years. Long before the Nolan Bat films came along.

If you don't mind my asking, but since when was it part of the mythos.

The creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming, gave him that origin. Plus it's been referenced in both GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE.

As Baerrtt said, Fleming included it in his novels. According to wikipedia, he included it after Connery appeared in Dr. No, as well as added that Bond had a Scottish descent.

It's funny, pre-TDK, I never thought anything could have unseated Spider-man 2 as the "MOST BESTEST COMIC FILM EVERRRR!!!" It's funny to see how things change with time.

Don't worry, wait for people to say TDK was overrated anyway. It happens with everything.

Bond was already called an orphan in Casino Royale pre-TDK and TDKR.

Alec mentioned that Bond's parents died in a climbing accident in GE. Some....15 years before TDK.

Saw this one last night.I guess I'm not what you'd call devoted follower of 007,but I've seen and enjoyed several of the films in the past.

I thought it was great.I'm really enjoying Craig as Bond. The second half wasn't quite what I expected.I thought the villain was pretty good, too.

I think the only thing I didn't quite understand was
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
why Bond didn't really make any effort to save the girl from being shot.He waits until after to make his move?

Anyway,I really enjoyed it,and if the poll was still open I'd give it an 8.

One general question though,I take it that the Craig films are a prequal of sorts,so how can Dench be M in this film and be M in the Brosnan films set in the "future"?

There are undoubtedly stylistic and thematic influences in Skyfall from TDK. But to claim that they made Bond an orphan to make him more like Bruce Wayne is reaching.

Craig and Brosnan's Bond are not connected. Craig is a whole new continuity.

In my opinion, it's a cold way of going about things, but after Bond lost Vesper (from Casino Royale) he's just disallowed himself from getting close to anyone.
He fell for Eva Green in Royale and seemed to let his emotions get the better of him and allowed this to cloud his judgement when working. I take this stance from when he said "The ***** is dead..." when talking to M before the final sequence of the film.

Young Bond did go into a tunnel and when he came out he wasn't a boy anymore.

And don't forget he was originally an orphan since Ian Fleming. I doubt Fleming was reading Batman books off the coast of Jamaica. Plus, many of pop culture's heroes are orphaned.
