It's kinda sad how blatantly she served just as a marketing tool for the film as her role was surprisingly small.

I think when the role was originally written they assumed they'd just hire some model to fill in for it, that's why the character was so under developed but Berenice was actually great and probably better then they expected her to be.

They should have expanded her role there.

Really, when I saw the movie, Silva going straight for the kill was unexpected. And it would've been for Bond too, IMO. When Silva puts a whisky glass on her head, you naturally think he's going to aim for it - in a one upsmanship game. So I have no problem with Bond lashing out after the fact.

I saw it again last night and it's even better. It makes more sense that Sean Connery was meant to be Kincaid now. Especially that 'jumped up little S***' line.

Does 'M' stand for Mom or Emma? Kincaid kept caller her Emma. I thought it stood for mother as in the woman in charge, but at the end of Skyfall, the way Bond addressed Mallory as M, he delivers the line as though he's calling him M simply as an abbreviation of his real name, as opposed to the official title of the head of M16.

Kincaid called her "Emma" because Bond introduced her as M, which most people would take for "Em," short for "Emma."

And as Bond said in Casino Royale, "I always thought M was a randomly assigned initial. I had no idea it stood for..." So based on that line, I would assume "M" is her official title assigned by MI6, based on whatever her real last name is. Just like Mallory.

That's what I thought too. Poor Kincaid is just a little confused as to what little James did now for a living.

I had thought I heard Tanner call her "Major Emma" during the hearing.

Given his age, I thought Kincaid misheard M for Emma.

It was never revealed in the films, but I like that her name was Barbara Mawdsley.

The franchise in no way makes it seem like there were multiple 007s.

Its not about the changing appearance so much. Its more about the wild changes in tone, and the actual progression of era. Dr No is very explicitly set pre-moon landing, while Brosnan onward are very explicitly set post-Cold War, yet before the Craig films, you'd still get callbacks and references implying that all the old movies were still canon.

Really glad the bluray cover says 007 on it twice, so that we know what movie series it's from.

I always thought it might be "Margaret"

The Bond films are a product of their time just like any film that isn't specifically set in a certain time period. As viewers, we're not supposed to sit there and be like "Hot damn, Bond must be immortal. He has been an agent for 40 years and still maintains his youth." The callbacks and references aren't implying. They are deliberate. Why would Roger Moore's Bond be at Tracy Bond's grave when it was George Lazenby's Bond who was married to her? That doesn't make sense.

They were calling her mom because of her role and I think partly as a joke for MI6 because of her age.

The GoldenEye Script named her "Barbara Mawdsley".

Bond works on the same timescale that comic books use. Bond being the same guy since the 60s isn't any different than Spider-Man. His past still happens, but he lives in whatever time it happens to be at the present.

They were calling her "Mum". It's a polite reference used in the business/professional world sometimes. The equivalent of "Sir".

I'd say it was "Ma'am" and just with the British accent it sounds like "Mum."

I tend to think of the Bond movies like the DC Multiverse. There's Earth-Connery, Earth-Lazenby and so on. Each new actor is the one and only James Bond on his Earth, and he may or may not have had some of the same past adventures as another.
