Yes, between book four and five. It was perfectly enjoyable, if unremarkable. Most of the novel dealt with a story-within-a-story fairy tale, so not much deals with the "ka-tet", but it was nice to go back to this universe. It's fairly brief too, especially for King, so it's a nice, quick read.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Operation Barracuda - By David Michaels (Raymond Benson).
I'm no video game fan, never played the game but I'll read anything with Clancy's name on it and since I just filled out the Clancy collection with the couple smaller books that he outlines and plots then makes someone else write (look for the apostrophe on his last name [Tom Clancy's]). In this case it was written by Raymond Benson who wrote as James Bond official author for 6 books. He was middling as a Bond author, but he wasn't bad. Good story too, terrorists, arms dealer (The Shop), globe trotting, big story that seems to pull the whole world into the plot. Lots of action scenes, many involving late night infil/exfil-tration. I can see how this would make good fodder for a game. It's a pretty decent book, reads like a less sucessfull Rainbow 6.

Ready Player One ~ Ernest Cline
Incredibly awesome read. If you're someone who grew up in a time where you still were affected by about 80's pop culture, then this is a must read. Heck, if you just like a good action/adventure story, then you should give this a shot. Great story, great characters, great action, just an all out fun story.

"With a single spell" by Lawrance Watt-Evans. Good book, his Esthar books are always dependable for a light, fun read.

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Yeah, I'm boring like that. Figured I might as well finish the series, though.

Just finished The Naked God by Peter F. Hamilton. Which was the third book of his Night's Dawn trilogy.
Great read, but heavy going at times.

The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch
Last 20-30 pages got a little to blunt with the themes with the character basically explaining everything, and there's a lot of little oddball adjectives, too. How exactly does one shrug philosophically, Phil? But otherwise, quite good. I almost wish I was living in the '60s, before all this stuff got endlessly ripped off and repeated, just to feel the freshness of it. Then again, according to Dick, I may very well be... |
