After many ifs and buts about what sci-fi I'll take on, I wanted to attempt to stick to modern writers like Alastair Reynolds and John Scalzi, but after the latter's Old Man War, I have had trouble finding any good. So I took all the accolades to heart, and finally started listening to Isaac Asimov's Foundation.
I am two chapters in and have never experienced a science fiction book that've been this easy to get into in. Even if it's a very high-concept story, it is presented by very simple and relateable characters which is a large part of why I liked this at once as soon as I started it

I'm still working my way through the Night Circus but I have just lost all interest in it. That's likely due to how seldom I pick it up but I am dying to give it a break and start another book... but I don't want to have to come back to Night Circus for a 3rd time.
It's not bad, it's just not what I want to be reading right now.

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy
For an adventure story, it was surprisingly boring. 75% of the book must have been spent examining every single one of Marguerite's thoughts over and over and over again. The Scarlet Pimpernel is barely in the damn thing.
