You're welcome.
Also (just like most of you lol) I went back and watched the cc footage and looked at this scene. It's so much brighter. Why did they add so much shadow? I knew all that black on his neck was wrong. lol

The reason I am personally excited for Man of Steel is outside of the issue of how dark the film might or might not be. For me the reason I still have such excitement is I've been trying to bring home the point that we need a new origin film since before Showtime was even here, back in 2003. I have been hoping for a new take on it and was worried the market was oversaturated with reboots. So I am still excited to get a new modern version of his origin, and hope that the film mixes up light and dark tones... which it should

Not my sentiment at all..........IMO putting Superman in hand cuffs is tantamount to putting Superman in shadowy bushes while spying on Lois Lane.

One thing I've noticed is that if you only view this image at a very small resolution -- say on a small computer screen -- it looks very cool. Only when it's blown up on a large screen does it look poorly executed.

If it wasn't specified yet, two things that'll gain intrigue from general audiences.
The symbol obviously, and the fact that Superman...****ing Superman is UNDER ARREST?! Well why? And that's how interest sparks.

To tell his origin, there has to be SOME dark though guys. When he becomes the beacon of hope, the transition to a brighter tone will likely be made and stand out more. I hope they play with darker and lighter elements.

I don't think it looked gritty at all. Again, it looked much more like a J.J. Abrams type thing. Not sure what you guys were expecting.

For me, that is necessary for the balance of an origin story (which you probably remember me pimping since 2003 on here lol)

This is true. There should be some thematic chiaroscuro.

Nope, doesn't change the design or composition for me.

Of course in crappy quality, things like teaser posters and comic con footage will look extra gritty. We saw comic con footage with focus problems. Clues but not the fool picture imo

The Comic Con footage is strong to endure anything, in my opinion. I'm that confident in this film.

I definitely appreciate the sentiment behind the poster. And given that Goyer and Nolan wrote the film in the same way they wrote The Dark Knight Trilogy (fantastical character in a "real" world) I think what they should have done for the poster would be showing that the "real" world would distrust their beacon of hope in Superman. So I would have preferred if either the logo, or Superman himself were brightened. Like this:
![]() Or this: ![]() Except y'know, done well and not with a Chinese Henry. God I'm awful with PS

Do you guys feel as good or better compared to when Superman Returns media first started coming out? I remember being excited with how great Routh looked as Clark, but my main disappointment was just based on it being a returns story rather than an origin film. This time around I am excited about the story, and overall excited on how Superman looks. I do hope we avoid some of the same problems SR had like trying to market the film as dark too much of the time early on.

I'd love for you to elaborate, just so I have a better idea.
To me, gritty is using certain color correction/timing techniques, having a dirty sort of grime to the image, and utilizing camera angles and edits that have a stark feel. I.E. I personally think The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a "gritty" looking film. Memento, Taxi Driver, and Blade Runner are also examples. I don't think that Super 8, Star Trek, and Thor are gritty films at all, and I think Man of Steel is much closer in tone to those films as a whole.
