From The Playlist:
Exclusive: Christopher Nolan Talks Around ‘Justice League' & Says ‘Man of Steel’ Is Not Quite Like His Batman Trilogy
Quote:
I had the opportunity and good fortune to sit down with director Christopher Nolan last week during some Oscar luncheons to discuss this week’s release of “The Dark Knight Rises” and the complete “Dark Knight Rises Trilogy” on Blu-ray/DVD. Ever the well-coiffed and relatable gentleman, Nolan is obviously known for his secrecy, but I was struck with how carefully he jiu jitsu’d around certain questions without ever coming across as deeply cagey. Instead, perhaps like his silent and swift ‘Dark Knight Rises’ protagonist, it’s as if he shook your hand with a smile and moments later you realized your wallet was gone.

After a 30-minute conversation mostly centering around his Batman trilogy (which we'll have for you soon), I had inquire about Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” on which he serves as executive producer. I asked the filmmaker if he was done with superhero films and suggested that Warner Bros. might want him to produce the “Justice League” film and perhaps take a Joss Whedon-like role in godfathering the future of the studio's D.C. Comics films. He laughed softly at the mention of him akin to Whedon’s role, but then talked around the questions: “Well, as I’ve said, and I’ll say definitively again, I am done with the Batman films, the trilogy is completed. It ended in the manner we had envisioned.”

As for if he’s done with the superhero genre, the filmmaker again playfully evaded. “Well, I’m producing Superman now and I’m enjoying time off and taking a break,” he said with a smile.

The Batman films and in particular “The Dark Knight Rises” caused a furor in some circles with fans who thought the ending -- (**spolier alert** if you somehow haven’t seen these films)
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
-- wherein Batman/Bruce Wayne faked his own death and sacrificed himself in the name of Gotham, hoping the symbol of Batman would carry on with the idealist detective John Blake --
was somehow antithetical to the spirit of Batman. As we were parting, I asked him if he saw the ending as “radical.”

“Radical? Hmm, yes, perhaps for the comic book fans it was,” he said with a pause, “But I think it was appropriate ending for the story we set out to tell.”

As for “Man of Steel,” which looks like it’s very much part of the Nolan-verse -- i.e. a reinterpretation of the iconic Superman story only grounded in a more realistic and plausible world -- the director said they won’t be as similar as you think. “Well, somewhat,” he said when asked if Superman fits into the brand of standalone superhero universe we’ve come to know from him. “But I wouldn’t want people to think we're doing for Superman what we did for Batman.”

“It's very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he's done,” he continued. “I think it's really remarkable to take on that character. Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can't in anyway use the same template. But David Goyer had this, I thought, brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it's incredible what he's putting together. He's got a lot of finishing to do on that. Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack's doing. It's really something.”

More from this interview later this week. “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy” is out on Blu-ray/DVD starting today.

Everyone involved in this film(with the sometimes exception of Shannon) has been on repeat full time with the press.
Has anyone else noticed?

Every now and there one of these sites get's a quote from zack or nolan and it's always this sort of exact answer. Not complaining, just pointing it out. Amazing really.

He seems to be flip-flopping on Justice League. He said before Man of Steel will be his last superhero related film. Now he evades the question, perhaps he'll throw his name on so he can get another few dream projects done.

if Nolan getting involved in JL means that it will be a shared universe that ties into MOS ( meaning Cavill will be Superman in JL ), then I'm all for it!

Nolan wouldn't really have much say in the matter, but his name will at least bring some box-office helping to the film. I honestly hope Bale will return more than Nolan at this point. I wouldn't want Nolan to become someone who'd attach his name to something he doesn't believe in to get more of his own films out.

Who say's Bale will be back? From the latest rumours it sounds as though Blake will be the who will be back...

I know the trilogy is complete, but Bale is "my Batman". In the same way Cavill will hopefully be "my Superman". If Bale can't return I think I'd rather let the Batman series rest and do Justice League separately from Man of Steel.

i think, for right now, he should stay focused on Man of Steel, and let Warner Bros fret over Justice League

Who Zack or Chris? Because Chris always says Man of Steel is Zack's film, he even refers to producing it as "time off", Zack is doing all the hard work.

i think both of them should be focused just on Man of Steel for now... personally, if I were in Nolan's shoes, i would lay off the JL news for now... not to be smug or anything, but dont count your chickens before they hatch...

JL might be an amazing movie, it might not... the focus right now, though, should be Superman

Actually the latest rumor debunked that rumor. So rumor has it, JGL will not be Batman in JL.

Which was debunked by the originally source, and then that was debunked again by JGL's reps, although not defintively, but just at this time. We'll just see how it pans out though, I guess...

Yeah, if filming JLA is to begin in the 6 or so months, the time leading up to the start of filming is going to be interesting to say the least.

Yes, it will have an all new theme. The Supeman theme of old is no more.

The Joseph Gordon Levitt rumor wasn't "debunked," folks.

His reps (whose job it is to handle his affairs to his best interests) denied it. That means nothing. I can point to many examples where scoops were knee-jerk "debunked" and turned out to be true. You'll find this shocking. But people in showbiz lie. *Record scratch*

if JGL is the new Bruce Wayne/Batman in a brand new continuity, then fine.

if, however, he is the John Blake/Robin/Batman, continuing on from TDKR, then no.

I don't want JL to have anything to do with the Nolan trilogy.

And the Batman in JL has to be Bruce Wayne, not John Blake.

I sure hope so...I'm still not sold on The Hobos. I'm not paying a ton of money to go see a trailer and then watch a movie I'm not even interested in
