Am I the only one who likes the poster? The lens flare seems unnecessary but I like the rest of it.

Look, guys, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Either you want to watch all the leaked material that you weren't supposed to see and deal with being way ahead of the game, or you can actually be patient and enjoy the content from a fresh perspective, as it was intended. This is why Nolans team stopped doing the Cons. The fact that some people are upset because this was a sequence in the Comic-Con footage is ridiculous and really speaks to the quality or lack thereof in the discussion around here. The internet fan-community is an extremely vocal, but extremely small segment. The goodies you would be into were presented at Comic-Con months ago. That was the point of that panel and the footage. If you want that kind of stuff, then start attending the Cons and be prepared for major lulls in-between. These marketing moves are designed for the general public, not the guy that downloaded the grainy, leaked Con footage and analyzed it frame by frame. Even when the trailer hits, people will still complain, because they'll pull some of that footage from the Con which "we've already seen." Yes, you and about 10,000 other people.... Out of millions. Not defending the artistic quality of the poster, which I agree is underwhelming, but a little perspective would be a welcome addition around here.

speaking of the "blur," didn't the teaser trailer have a "blur" effect going on, too?
maybe, stylistically, it's intentional.........

I'm not upset about that. It is the bootleg appearance of the picture / poster that bothers me.

I think the big problem is WBs are marketing this very much like the Nolan Batman films and not the way a new Superman film needs to be marketed. I'd say they're 2-1 down so far the first Con poster was very good, the first teaser trailer and now this are underwhelming. Now I did like the teaser and I do like this poster but they're not sending the right message if they think what worked for Batman will work fir ?supernan they're in for a rude awakening.

Personally I love the poster it shows the tone of the film perfectly, so much different than anything else Superman related we've seen before.

Can we stop calling it a poster? It is a teaser image for an unlock reward of TDKR

Poster is pretty cool. I really like it. It's a little blurry though and that's my only beef with it. But the concept is awesome.

Nope I like it too, I think most if us are just peeved at how it was hyped. A reward in my opinion would have been a first shot if Zod ora snippet if footage but then again were very spoiled these days in the Internet generation. But I do like it just once again think it might have been a missed opportunity.

I liked the first con poster and teaser trailer. This is not in the same league of release, it is just an internet teaser image and hardly a "poster" imo.

A disappointment certainly. Not great, not terrible and I'm confident NOT a poster either. This is clearly meant to be a "throwaway" item for a web promotion. The problem is, they dragged it out for so long that the fans who were actually following the countdown were able to get their hopes up. If you know nothing of the movie and/or the promo, this might be kinda cool. For the rest of us, it's just disappointing.
As to its "artistic" merits. It's not bad given the apparent goal/importance (or lack thereof) of the piece and that they started with a screenshot. So we have Superman in a dark prison-esque environment, after presumably turning himself in to prove he is not our enemy. It's cold, dark and depressing. Yet, we have a worm's eye-view style shot of our hero. This view is meant to show the hero in a moment of victory. If he were defeated, we'd be looking down on him. One of the filters used allows Superman to "glow" in relation his environment and those around him. Again, showing him as a hero and a beacon of hope and light, which is accented by the (annoying) light/lens flare behind him. I would say the point of the poster is to show our hero stoic, proud, determined and triumphant despite his environment/situation. We all know Supes could destroy those handcuffs and lay waste to those soldiers at any moment, but he chooses to comply with their demands to demonstrate his commitment to truth and justice. Not a bad concept, though as some have said, I'm not completely sold on the execution. The film grain filter, I suppose is meant for atmospheric effect, but I can't say that I like it all that much. Again, not a terrible image overall, but a disappointment in many ways. |

I really love the concept of the poster... It's a strong, striking image, easily on par with the broken Bat-cowl from last year.
Sadly, WB screwed up the execution. It could have been so much better and epic than it is. There was no real effort put into this. So essentially... A nice but flawed poster that I definitely wouldn't hang on my hang.

I will say this, those who had no clue about the footage seeing this for the first time around the internet, it sure has people curious as to what's going on in this picture. I am glad they went the route of taking a scene from the movie for this picture and not some over posed shot.
