Default So my friend made me watch Illuminati: Music Industry Exposed...

...and I just have one question...

How are people so gullible they don't catch that "Rain Man" is not a reference to the Devil, but is a reference to Dustin Hoffman's Raymond "Rain Man" character from a movie that's flipping called Rain Man?

Simple answer is people will believe anything. Worshipping Rain Man clearly can't be all that if you're struggling to make a good song before you hit 40 (Eminem). Somehow it's easier for people to digest the idea that Rhianna and Katy Perry sold their souls and control everyone than to say they worked hard enough/the music industry is at a ridiculously bad "standard" to where they can become famous. Kanye West doesn't control your miserable life, you perpetuate the idea because it's an easier pill to swallow.

Also the only reason it's really flared up in the last few years with the music videos and weird references is because they know these crackpot theorists are actually going to spend large portions of their day detailing them, finding **** that isn't there. Freaking out because these "artists" are promoting drugs and sex? Get outta here. Let's not pretend hell/Satan/accusations of selling one's soul haven't been prevalent since Led Zep and heavy metal.

The sad thing is though that a lot of the ideas behind the occult and guys like Crowley are just being perverted. The ties to Lucier are overblown and not even the interesting part of his writings, IMO. The search for the Self and the pursuit of the Great Work are fascinating concepts, and really have little to do with what does get promoted by the rappers who are just clever enough to slip it in their music, but without seemingly knowing why.

Or, you know, Robert Johnson in 1936-37. One of the first, if not the first, inductees into rock & roll's "27 Club."

Which is just another example of what I said. It's easier to believe Robert Johnson sold his soul rather than, I dunno, worked really hard.

Exactly. He worked really hard, and died very young.

There's no big scandal or mystery to it. Except for, maybe, how he died.

I was just saying that Satan/selling your soul/etc goes back way to long before heavy metal and Led Zep.

I just think unless your at least my age you can be duped into believing the Rain Man is the devil, and not some movie in the '80s.

Shame, because it's an awesome movie.

But when it got to the part where they said "what is the Rain Man" I rolled my eyes and turned it off.

It's funny you say all this though because my roommate insists that athletes all have "talent" and it's not hard work that makes them athletes, rather their born that way. I try to tell him, no they had to work for those bodies, very hard.

I work out two hours a day, and he never leaves his bed.

lol.

Well, it's both. Talent will only get you so far. If you don't continually practice and work to improve your skills, then talent means nothing.

Musicians and athletes and actors are talented. But they also need to work hard and challenge themselves in order to continually improve and reach the top of their profession. But it's just easier for people to explain away things as magical instead of, you know, requiring tons of man hours and sweat to complete them.

But back to this whole Illuminati thing. I really don't get it. It seems to just have sprung up overnight. And EVERYONE is a part of it.

The Illuminati killed Michael Jackson. Madonna's Super Bowl performance was all references to it. Ke$ha's "Die Young" video is showcasing it (instead of parodying the damn theory and the thought process behind, which is how I took it). And so on and so on.
