ignoring everything else you wrote, yes, tdkr earned a lot of money because tdk was a great movie. people eagerly awaited a sequel and didn't care how bad it was. some even enjoyed it and that's good for them, but if TDK hadn't happend, a movie with the quality of TDKR never would have made that money

Same here in Austria, both screenings I went to the last few days were sold out, one of them, yesterdays, was an early afternoon screening that usually don't sell as well as those at the evenings

At least 100M, I wouldn't be surprised if it does 120M+

TDKR made the money it did because of a combination of quality AND being a sequel to TDK.

Any film that follows a well received, highly watched previous installment is going to make a lot of money.

Are you telling me that if the Avengers was the first official film of Marvel studios and had to introduce every single character that it would have made the amount it did?

What about TDK? Are you telling me that if Batman Begins never existed that TDK's BO wouldn't have been affected?

Your statement was that a film "of the quality" of TDKR wouldn't have been as successful without TDK preceding it.

I could just as easily say that a film the "quality" of TA wouldn't have made as much as it did without the several Marvel films setting it up and generating hype beforehand.

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. Many liked TDKR, others like me thought it was a snooze-fest. But the GA seemed to be well on board with it.

So it's almost halfway to matching the overseas total of the first film... in 4 days.

Film studios will watch the BO of Thor 2 with interest especially with the summer becoming far too overcrowded. If Thor is successful we may see more Hollywood blockbusters in fall. The summer is starting to become a blood bath.

Well by Hollywood jargon vis-a-vie the seasons the we're now in the holiday season. Fall for Hollywood is Sept. and Oct. and still has a stigma of unprofitability attached to it. Doubt they'd ever roll a film like TTDW out there.
