My mistake. It was the BAFTA he won, nominated twice for an Oscar, won two Golden Globes etc etc. But yeah, obviously you're right ..... zero acting credentials at all.

Why would they? Their situations were completely different from RDJ's. But I remember both Chris's being positively singled out for their performances in their respective movies. With Hemsworth it was "this guy came outta nowhere and now is one of the next big things in Hollywood" and with Evans it was more of the "I didn't know he had such range within him since he usually plays smarmy type characters". Evans was more of a suprise since he had been around in Hollywood whilst Hemsworth was mainly an unknown quantity. Those were the kinds of compliments they got.

They didn't get a credit for the box-office performance of their movies. But Robert Downey Jr. got a lot of credit for the box-office performance of Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Some people even wonder if The Avengers would have been that successful if Robert Downey Jr. wasn't playing Iron Man. So that just shows that Robert Downey Jr.'s star power is a big factor when it comes to the success of MCU's films.

The Avengers Effect is real.

I'd say 700 m is the floor at the moment.

I would have agreed with the 700 mil prediction if the release date was different. I really hope catching fire doesnt do too much damage. In order to make that kind of money, TDW is going to have to be a damn good movie, not just a solid enjoyable one like the first. I like what i've seen thus far though

1) IM3's huge overseas opening

2) If Iron Man 3 can increase 100% globally, I don't see why Thor can't increase at least 50%.

Everyone underpredicted Avengers.

Then they underpredicted IM3.

Is Thor 2 going to also be underpredicted?

Same here and Thor:TDW is by far the underdog compared to IM3 and MOS.

Never understood that. MoS to me was always the clear one with hurdles to overcome. Well, that and Wolverine.

Clearly, but a few good trailers is all it takes for fan boys to declare that a movie is going to be a hit.

Yes, the floor is definitely $700 M. If Thor shows as much growth relative to it's predecessor as Iron Man did, we'll see Thor beat it's predecessor in a week, and hit the $600 M range before Catching Fire even drops.

The underdog here is The Wolverine. At least with Thor: the Dark World, its not a Summer movie compare to Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel.

Wow. Word is that IM3 did between 62 - 64m on Saturday and is on for around 180m this weekend. Insane numbers and if TA is going to have that sort of effect on the other movies I might have to revise my 715m prediction for Thor.

From some of the reactions I heard in the Hype forum, some fanboys have already declared MOS to be the biggest box office winner of the year. Go figure.

Anyway, I think IM3's amazing success bodes well for TDW. I believe The Avengers' effect will carry over to this movie, although I doubt it would have any influence on Wolverine even though it is still technically a Marvel movie.

I think that we will see these sequels roughly double their predecessors post Avengers...exact doubling would be:

Iron Man 3- $1.25 B
Thor: The Dark World- $900 M
Captain America: The Winter Soldier- $740 M

I think this is completely doable. People are going to want to see what happens next for the characters they loved in Avengers. IM3 has proven it.

Definitely seems $800m or more is on the table for Thor 2. Avengers Effect is obviously real. IM3's performance is testament to it. I can only speak for myself, but I had no interest in Thor or Loki before seeing the Avengers, but now I like both characters a lot. I finally got around to seeing Thor 1 yesterday and it was better than every MCU film except IM1/TA. I will definitely be seeing Thor 2 in the theater, and I'm sure there are many others out there like me.

It's true that Iron Man rests on RDJs shoulders in the same way POTC hinged on Johnny Depp, and probably the only superhero actor to do that. But I certainly saw reviews saying Hemsworth was the perfect Thor and even more crediting Hiddleston with Loki being the breakout character for the Avengers.

IM3 is playing like a sequel to The Avengers, I don't see why Thor:TDW shouldn't follow suit since CH is a rising A Lister and Thor/Loki storyline was a major part of the storyline. All the Phase 1 movies went back into the top sellers for DVD/Blu Ray last year for a few weeks. It won't be match IM3 but I can see it doing 700m-800m WW.
