I was thinking that PJ might be just joking about an Extended cut with all the negative buzz about 3 films. I think people don't get Jackson has a more humor about him then Lucas does. Jackson has poked fun at things critics say.
I think the whole introduction of the 13 is needed because these are new characters and that will take up 3 films. The more humor in the clips was gonna happen with Dawrvs rather then Elves or Humans. I mean a Hobbit and a Dwarf are very different race of people. One like Malt Beer the other Ale. Ripe Meat Off The Bone and Bread and Cheese an healthy stuff. |

I imagine he wanted to get the audience to care about the 13 dwarves rather than have them just be there. Whether or not that succeeds won't be apparent until the 3rd film is out. You didn't really need that with LOTR since the Fellowship was a smaller company.

Jackson doesnt joke about extended cuts. And a few months back WB accidentally released details of an extended Hobbit blu-ray for Q4 of 2013.

I'd say if there is extended releases it likely may be More White Council or parts not including Dwarfs since they take up so much of the opening. If go back though to The Extended FOTR it is quite long until we meet Merry and Pipin for it picks up there On The Road.

Just read a review from josh on cbm. He gave it 5 stars and actually loved the 48fps, saying that it makes the action scenes look amazing. Good news to hear.

Sorry, it's just that everyone and their mother has made that joke. I'm talking like every review, several people in this thread even, iirc.

Because according to a few of the early reviews, the focus is on Thorin and 3 or 4 other dwarves. It looks like we'll have a focus on a few dwarves per each film. By focus, I mean they get more lines and we get to know more about their character.

This is going to be fun on my part. When there is a movie out there I like, I like to see it multiple times. In the past, I would just experience the movie in different theaters (there are about 8 near me)
Now, I'll see the movie not only in different theaters, but in different formats. Now, it's 3D, IMAX, 2D, D-Box and now 48fps. |

I still need to see a film in D-box, I don't know which theater around here carries it.

Ever been to a theme park that had a theater with seats that vibrated and tilted in sync with the action on screen? That's a d-box.
They actually have lazy boys and office-style chairs you can buy do you can have that same experience at home. A lot of blurays and games come with the required app built in. The seats are obscenely expensive so they don't make a big deal about it.

The theme park near me had one. It used to play a 007 action sequence shot in POV. It was pretty cool, but jarring. I imagine the latest versions for actual films are a little more smooth.

I don't go out of my way to see movies in 3D....so I will see whatever they show near me. I'm also someone who doesn't mind long movies, or extended cuts.
When people say - I can't believe they only made one movie from each book of the trilogy - I think, hmmmm.....they were 3 1/2 to 4 hours long, that equals 2 regular movies each.

Using time for the ending is using it for story purposes, smart one. Whether you liked the long denouement or not, it was done strictly for story purposes.

I assume the only way to see it in 48fps is in 3D, because all the advance showings with the high frame rate options near me are only in Real D.
